Since I'm new to this site I will try to be somewhat humble and non-abrasive. May the force be with me.

I was simply compelled to throw in my $.02 worth. Being a 57 year old Auburn graduate, I go back to the "Shug" Jordan years so I had seen my fair share of Auburn football. After reading some of the comments made in this thread I'm curious to see if someone can show me an Auburn quarterback, youtube maybe, who was capable of throwing 40+ yard passes with such ease, running the ball with such power and agility and has put up the numbers that Newton has. Oh, I guess it is that "junior college" thing! Everyone knows high school gives a coach a much better idea of a player's ability. Besides, he only throws the ball to the right side of the field...............hells bells, I hope Gus Malzahn caught that! Good God, even his transmission gets stuck. Hopefully we can pull the scholarship before it's too late.

I wonder how many of our quarterbacks were capable of throwing the ball 32 yards downfield, across their chests, in a dead run, and lay it into the receivers hands( 3 minutes into the video). Or from his own 35 yard line, with the pocket collapsing around him, lay it in his receivers hands to his opponents 5 yard line(3:23 into the video). I guess his skill level is less than adequate for some Auburn coaches.

Personally I think the young man is going to blow our socks off in a way Auburn people have never seen. With the talent we have now, adding to it this phenomenal recruiting class, I wish he were on campus right now working with our receivers and quarterbacks. After seeing this brief introduction to Gus Malzahn

101( I could kiss him on the mouth) I sometimes start squealing like a little school girl.

If I am wrong I promise I will come back to this site and everyone can feed me a delicious pile of steaming hot crow and I will accept it graciously. In fact I am dining on some right now. When Coach Chizik was hired I had concerns about the offense that we would see. Fortunately I keep a good supply of crow in the freezer just in case.................Son, could you please pass the Tabasco........ thanks.

Oh yes, about being capable of playing in the SEC right away. Which junior college team was at the end of the video that has the orange jerseys with that big T on the side of the helmets? Boy, somebody made a big mistake recruiting this loser!

No one is denying Newton's athletic ability or that he is absolutely amazing on his highlights, no one denied Rollison's athletic ability or accuracy, no one denied Burns' athletic ability or arm strength, no one denied Trotter's athletic ability and potential to be an SEC QB, no one denied Mosley's ability to make all of the pass and win games. Yet for all that talent, accuracy, athletic ability and x factors we have at the QB position the one thing we dont have is a starter.  You'll have to forgive me if I chose to kick the tires a bit before I buy the car, regardless of how good it looks.

Umm...Newton would have never signed if he wasnt going to be the starter...Just my opinion.

Precisely.  Newton is pretty much the prototypical Gus Malzahn hurry up/no huddle QB.  Good arm with good mobility.  He will start from the first day of spring practice, regardless of any coachspeak.  Driskel will replace him in 2012, and we can finally flush the QB turds from Tubs' regime.

I'm glad we can agree on Cameron Newton's satiny complexion and youthful glow. For me it goes far beyond the physical attributes of this young man. If there were ever a player destined for the NFL it would have to be this stud, not just because of the slick video we watched, but by the sheer numbers he has put up. This is not High school.

"Newton led Blinn College to the junior college national championship this season. In 12 games, he completed 204 of 336 passes (61 percent) for 2,833 yards with 22 touchdowns, and just five interceptions. He averaged 236.1 yards per game through the air. He also rushed for 655 yards on 108 carries (6.1 avg.) and 16 touchdowns."

Adding to this, had it not been for a momentary lapse in good judgment which cost him dearly, he would be starting for the Florida Gators the next two years. I haven't checked the roster when he was dismissed but my impression is that he was Tim Tebow's backup and I know of no one at Florida that was complaining.

My point is that at this juncture in Auburn football history it seems as though the planets have finally aligned themselves in our favor. I can't imagine a quarterback better suited for this coaching staff, and this offense. In other words his tires have been kicked repeatedly and he has proven himself in a far more impressive way than what a high school player or backup qb is capable of( imo ). We have seen four and five star recruits and backups turn out to be a bust, it's part of college football. This could turn out to be another unfortunate example( I have more crow) so my question is, who would be better suited?, show me how this is a mistake.

There is a temporary red blight on this state and in this league(GO TEXAS!) and it is time to bring it to an end so if you see a better solution please share it with us. Names, facts, stats and numbers. For Auburn and Cameron it is a symbiotic relationship in my opinion, both a means to an end starting with game one. For Cameron it is a deadly serious business decision to come to the Plains, and for Auburn an end to the days of having to settle for less, Eric Ramsay(SOB) and other such crap. If we need it, get it. No more being snubbed by this BCS garbage. I want blood!

WGDE!!!                                        Thanks AUTrooper                  I'm not trying to be a smart-ass, just having fun.
