I find it highly offensive for people to call officials dumb, stupid, ignorant, biased or incompetent. So funny the ones complaining the most haven't got a clue what it takes for these officials to get where they are. But, to debate this here is futile, because everybody already has their minds made up and the official is always to blame. You may now continue the tirade against officiating because its easier to cast blame than debate the issue intelligently.

I agree. I further find that those are the same people who complain about lawyers and Obama! B)

I'm fine with grouping lawyers, Obama, and refs together and letting the public judge them as a whole.

Apparently you are only qualified to judge them if you are a lawyer, a Socialist President, and a Pee Wee ref. Everyone else is just ignorant

I don't think things that go uncalled, or things that appear to be fouls in real time are the issues. I understand those errors will happen. Officials, at least at a collegiate level, are given ample time and opportunity to undo these wrong/no calls. I honestly believe that some pretty obvious calls are called wrong, reviewed, and 'proven' wrong - both for and against my team.

On top of that is is an element of subjectivity that is my biggest concern. Face masks, late hits, holding, etc are definable offenses. Unsportsmanlike behavior (except something excessive like chasing after opponents with your mouth running, etc) as well as taunting can be more subjective. Dropping the football the wrong way, too many high-fives with opponents still in the end zone, leaping into the O-line's arms if the opposing QB is staring that way could all be considered taunting. BS calls like this with an official given full reign over those kinds of calls will ruin college football and take it to the level Barney & Friends.

I know this was in 2004 but I bet in a game this year it would be considered taunting or excessive celebration. Thankfully it didn't get flagged but it probably would now if it happened.

I think the taunting/excessive celebration rule is bad. Like someone mentioned earlier, there are too many gray areas for refs to throw the flag at something that isn't taunting, like in the pic above.

The new rule would not affect your scenario since that occured after the play in the endzone. But if a flag was thrown no points would be taken off the board, penalty would be enforced on the kickoff or p.a.t.

I want the NCAA to get us a damn playoff system and leave the kids alone. We need less rules in college football not more. Just like we need less government involvment not more. The NCAA leave the kids alone. The federal governement leave me the hell alone.
