Auburn85 438
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1209/Bush_closes_the_gap.html# Public Policy Polling:Perhaps the greatest measure of Obama's declining support is that just 50% of voters now say they prefer having him as President to George W. Bush, with 44% saying they'd rather have his predecessor. Given the horrendous approval ratings Bush showed during his final term that's somewhat of a surprise and an indication that voters are increasingly placing the blame on Obama for the country's difficulties instead of giving him space because of the tough situation he inherited. The closeness in the Obama/Bush numbers also has implications for the 2010 elections. Using the Bush card may not be particularly effective for Democrats anymore, which is good news generally for Republicans and especially ones like Rob Portman who are running for office and have close ties to the former President. Justin5 20
No way to spin it - those are very surprising numbers.
CCTAU 3,658
I've said it till I'm blue. If Bush would not have spent like a drunken sailor, he would be one of the most popular presidents since Reagan. People WANT to feel safe. Bush was very strong on SAFE. But damn, he and congress spent the hell out of some money. And that is what lost the election to a bunch of folks who spend even worse. But when it comes to being an unapologetic strong leader form a world perspective, no other country would even think of going after us with Bush as president. Now? Who the hell knows. That makes the average American uneasy. And that is where these numbers are coming from.

Do yourself a favor and check it out.
