Hoover officially announces 4-year extension of SEC Baseball Tournament at Met

The City of Hoover and the SEC announced a 4-year extension of the SEC Baseball Tournament Thursday.The Hoover Met has held every SEC Tournament since 1998, except for the year it was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. "The SEC Tournament has become one of the premier events in college baseball and the Hoover Met is a special venue for our fans,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey in a statement. "We look forward to continuing a positive relationship with the City of Hoover as the home of our baseball tournament."Video above: Full press conference of announcementThe 2025 tournament will be the first to include every SEC team, including the new members, Oklahoma and Texas. And so, we have been feeding everybody,” Jones said.Over the last few years, Hoover has spent $14 million to upgrade the locker rooms and give the Met's parking lot and main entrance a facelift. “Everything that we have done here is directed towards making this attractive for the SEC Baseball Tournament,” Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato said leading up to the 2024 event.Monday night, the City Council passed the resolution unanimously for a four-year extension through 2028, with two additional one-year options through 2030.Video below: Watch coverage from the council approval on MondayIncluded in the plans is another $11 million in upgrades to the fan experiences inside the stadium. “Bringing more suites, updating the chairs, possibly putting some areas out on the third or first base side, that would be very fan-friendly. And we're doing this because we want to keep the SEC here,” Brocato said.Such plans will continue to boost profits for area eateries, feeding off the fan frenzy that investment helps fuel.“I'm very excited with it. We have four more years with it. So, we're going to make those four years count,” Jones said.The 2025 SEC Baseball Tournament will include all 16 schools after Texas and Oklahoma joined the league.
