College Football Playoff announces dates for 2024 weekly rankings

The College Football Playoff weekly rankings for 2024 will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 5 and continue each week through Dec. 8, it was announced Thursday.

The first set of rankings will air at 6 p.m. Central on ESPN. Subsequent rankings will be released Nov. 12 (8 p.m.*), Nov. 19 (6 p.m.), Nov. 26 (7 p.m.) and Dec. 3 (6 p.m.), with the final rankings released at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8.

This is the first year of the 12-team playoff format, with the five highest-ranked conference champions guaranteed spots in the bracket. The first round of the playoff is set for Dec. 20-21, with quarterfinals Dec. 31-Jan. 1, semifinals Jan. 9-10 and the national championship game Jan. 20 in Atlanta.

Michigan athletics director Warde Manuel will serve as College Football Playoff Committee chairman for the first time this year. Other members of the committee are former Nevada coach Chris Ault, Navy athletics director Chet Gladchuk, former Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe, College Football Hall of Famer Randall McDaniel, former Missouri coach Gary Pinkel, Baylor athletics director Mack Rhoades, former Oregon State coach Mike Riley (an Alabama graduate), Miami (Ohio) athletics director David Sayler, College Football Hall of Famer Will Shields, former sports writer Kelly Whiteside, Virginia athletics director Carla Williams and Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurachek.

* — Time is approximate. Rankings will air between games of a college basketball doubleheader (Kansas-Michigan State & Kentucky-Duke) on ESPN.
