Big week for Auburn men's golf

This week four members of the Auburn men's golf program will compete at the 124th edition of the U.S. Amateur Aug. 12-18 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

Senior Carson Bacha makes his third consecutive U.S. Amateur appearance, senior Brendan Valdes and sophomore Jackson Koivun make their second, and sophomore Josiah Gilbert is set to make his first.

Koivun received exemption status as a quarterfinalist from the previous U.S. Amateur. Bacha, Gilbert and Valdes are exempt as top-100 point leaders in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).

Dually hosted by Hazeltine National and Chaska Town Course, the U.S. Amateur hosts 312 of the nation's top amateur golfers all vying for the Havemeyer Trophy. Monday, Aug. 12 and Tuesday, Aug. 13 will see the men face off in 36 holes of stroke play before the field is cut to 64 ahead of the first round of match play on Wednesday, Aug. 14. The championship concludes with a 36-hole finale on Sunday, Aug. 18.Peacock and The Golf Channel will provide life coverage starting at 2 p.m. CT with Wednesday's opening round of matches.

Over the weekend, former Auburn golfer Trace Crowe had the best performance of his PGA Tour career at the Wyndham Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina. With a final round 67, Crowe finished tied for seventh. That moves him to 133 overall in the FedEx Cup standings as the tour shifts to the playoffs. There will be seven more events in the fall, which will allow Crowe the chance to get into the Top 125 and get full status for next season.

Carson and Brendan made it to 64 players match play with Brendan winning his match. So we got only one guy who has made the round of 32. Not out best day with Jackson and Josiah not making the cut to 64

Brendan will be playing one of the two kids from Spain who made the top 8 and I know nothing about him. These kids have to play a lot of golf holes to get to the finals. Then they have 36 holes in one day.....
