I Think the Dems Have Lost the High Ground

I don’t think it’s funny at all from either side. Both are a )$&@ bad joke.

True enough, but I think the issue is claiming equivalence when it comes to alluding to violence as a possibility.

Sure some democrats may be guilty of it.  But for Trump/MAGA it's a calculated strategy - a selling point.

I could go on for pages with quotes from Trump or other MAGA Republicans for support - not to mention graphics. R&R presented a sampling.

Remember that Trump speech when he joked about the police  (not) protecting someone's head when putting them into a police car?  Of course the "second amendment solution" quote is possibly the best example. How many times has he alluded to violence  in his rallies?

And this from the parties leader and candidate for president!

There is no equivalence.

I do think this may change Trump - near death often does -  either even angrier and more hostile or maybe a little more retrospective  and mature.  We’ll see.

I'm betting the former.

I don't think he possesses the discipline and self-control for the latter, not to mention the the philosophical mindset.

If I'm wrong, God help us.

Who would you like to see guide the nation forward of these two?

So petty. I’d probably prefer a candidate that doesn’t have to drink from a cup or bottle like a toddler. Shouldn’t be a big ask, yet here we are

I’m relieved hes ok

Nonetheless at this moment on a Sunday I still see Trump as a cancer and Biden as a very very average dem , diminishing noticeably by the day.  We’ll see where this goes. Ps before you start giving him the Purple Heart, remember this is the guy who ducked the draft. 3 times.

He also ducked that bullet yesterday.  People vote on perception a lot of the time.  Biden can not hold a candle to Trump’s perception right now.

Are convicted felons eligible for the Purple Heart?

I am glad that the shooter did not succeed in seriously injuring or killing Trump. With that out of the way .....

I admit, I haven't read this entire thread. I'll just mention --

Mark Robinson, GOP Lt Governor and candidate for Governor of NC, proclaimed to a church congregation, "Some folks just need killing."

That's just saying out loud what Trump has been urging his cult followers to do. And they've certainly tried. Arrests for intent to kill judges is the most common. Mass shootings and assaults to "save us" from blacks, Asians, Latinos.

Like most Trumpist Republicans, he is marching to destroy LGBTQ folks, empower the censorship brigade in every community, demonize Jews, ban abortion and contaception, and make his notion of pornography totally illegal in the U.S.

In other words, he's eager to turn NC into a mini-Iran/Taliban regime. Just another right-wingnut.

Does he approve of killing judges and prosecutors and witnesses? Well, only if they are prosecuting Republicans.

May be right. Again, we’ll see where this goes.

You are correct. I do apologize to 9377. I am not doing my part to tone down the rhetoric.

The hypocrisy is in the way some Republicans want to pretend none of it ever happened and then yesterday want to develop a narrative that escapes any responsibility for the partisan divide that the country is experiencing.

I apologize for calling you a retard . It was unnecessary and inappropriate on my part.

Looked sorta super human. Maybe Dr Jackson was right with “extraordinary” or evangelicals about “chosen”. 😗

graduated in 2012 w a degree in Women's Studies

cried in 2016 when Trump got elected

lost touch w the dems somewhere around MeToo

discovered entrepreneurship updated my voter registration in 2018 but didn't tell anyone

told myself i was a 'single-issue-voting Centrist'

the last 6-12 months i've believed i was going to abstain from voting in the upcoming election because the options are equally terrible but watching Trump survive an assassination attempt and act like a total ******* savage just shifted me into some strange, patriotic gear that my fancy-feminism-white-men-bad infected brain never showed me like, the dude took a bullet and stood up with blood dripping down his face, and rallied a ******* crowd while fist pumping, yelling "FIGHT!"

sorry, but i'm voting for that. and saying it out loud feels so freeing (2012 stepfanie would be so pissed but that's okay because 2012 stepfanie didn't know s***)

I have a suggestion:

Instead of featuring what some random whacko on either side has said, let's compare what has been said by the two candidates directly.

You sure you want to go there?

He was extraordinarily lucky.  I'm glad he was, but must we pretend that he saw a bullet coming from behind and ducked?  LOL

Ahh yes. Let’s rejoice a former president getting away with taking and mishandling hundreds of classified documents. All because he’s has an R by his name. The hell with our national security, as long as one man feels comfortable.

This country deserves the complete sh*t show it has coming towards it. And it’s coming.

At this rate the house and senate may turn red.  Will be interesting how things run.  Trump will have a plan from the moment he assumes the presidency.
Since he has Been There Done That (BTDT) with respect to the presidency  he  knows where the traps are.

This time he won’t let bureaucrats like Sally Yates stiff arm him.

I worked with Donald Rumsfeld’s office during his second tenure as Secretary of Defense.  It was not a fun time for Flag and General Officers going into brief him because Secretary Rumsfeld had seen it all before.   Downright brutal.

Going to be a helluva ride if Trump wins and the house and senate turn red.

Let’s hope Trump’s brush with death will cause him to do a lot of soul searching and reflection.  Maybe he will become a better person coming out of this.  Maybe the shooting attempt was a message for Trump to reflect on.

So... This time he makes certain every appointment will do what he says and not what the law requires?  Is that your point?
