............because we don't spend BILLIONS on defense as it is?  This is the weakest argument that could possibly be made.  How many defense contractors have we made poor?

With that attempt at deflection,  should we assume you are all in with the unconstitutional college loan bailouts?

You attempted to tie one issue to the other.  I am in favor of restructuring the student loan system.  Some do need forgiveness, while others do not.  Whatever the answer is regarding student loans, it has nothing to do with our over spending related to our military.

We can’t AFFORD this.

Shouldn’t be buying more aircraft carriers or paying off student loans.

I don't completely agree with all the debt forgiveness that's been granted, but it is not a zero sum game. Allowing people to get out of debt earlier means they will begin contributing to the economy earlier. Economic growth and less debt held will increase tax revenue.

Now do Trump’s tax cuts for the wealthy.

Those tax cuts were not limited to wealthy citizens.  And you know it.

Yet some were made permanent and some temporary... and you know it.

If you are forgiving the debt then the money has become unearned income.

Defense spending is one area that’s needed, though oversight and transparency can be a glaring issue when dealing with the IMC.

Do you honestly believe we don't spend enough on "national security."

The United States spends more on defense than the next 10 countries combined

Just because they give small benefits to the middle class doesn't fully justify large cuts for the wealthy.

Good Lord......this is from the cited piece...

Or, to take another example, Washington may spend as much on defense as the next ten military powers combined, however the Pentagon’s annual outlays are only about a third more than revenues at Walmart WMT +0.3% .

As though the two have anything whatsoever to do one with the other.

Sweet Jesus! ...  80% of NATO countries do not "pay their fair share" of the NATO defense requirement,

If they did perhaps U.S. defense spending could be reduced.

What a weird article. Why is he going on about how much we spend for holidays?

Wonder who wrote it. Let's check out the author's bio at the bottom of the page:

"I focus on the strategic, economic and business implications of defense spending as the Chief Operating Officer of the non-profit Lexington Institute ...  Disclosure: The Lexington Institute receives funding from many of the nation’s leading defense contractors, including Boeing, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Technologies."
