2025 5* QB Julian "Juju" Lewis

Additionally note about JUJU and QBs from The Rant:Ok had a couple conversations.

What I was told to me about what happened at the beginning of the week. Auburn reached out to the Lewis team wanting some assurances like committing to coming to big cat and making a flip to AU by August. The Lewis camp didn’t want to make those assurances. They in counter wanted some assurances such as guaranteed playing time as a true freshman. Not necessarily the starter but getting playing time. Auburn responded that they can’t make that guarantee. So we are where we are in that. We will continue to recruit Juju.

Other QB discussion…

Longstreet was the number 1 QB on the staff’s board. We lost the NIL battle in that one. The staff pivoted to Juju.

The staff sees Juju as a more college ready QB because of decision making and throwing accuracy over KJ and Deuce. They see Deuce as a bang or bust type QB prospect. He has the highest ceiling of the 3 QBs. Biggest arm, biggest body, best athlete but fundamentally has more to clean up then KJ and Juju. KJ they like his arm talent with a couple fundamental changes think he can be just as talented as Juju as far as accuracy and may even have a stronger arm. Plus they like the “gamer” moxie that he appears to play with in high school.

Oh how I miss the days when Shug said to Pat Sullivan while they were walking to Legion Field to watch a pro exibition game & Bear Bryant drove by with a police escort..."Pat you can walk with me or ride with him".  Pat continued his walk with Shug.  No talk about anything except football among 2 very honorable men.

But my point is there is nothing obviously that these cats are good coming out of highschool.  Nobody knew Pat Mahomes would be the face of the NFL even after he was chosen by Texas tech. If you say you did, then you are probably lying. We don’t need to rationalize not getting an elite player. The funny thing is the pivot is KJ , who is also elite, hence why he has committed to Texas. If we truly believe what that guy is putting out, go recruit those three and two star QBs and take a chance on them. Put your job on the line for them Hugh Freeze. They are available.

Another example the poster mentioned was Russell Wilson. RW had to prove himself at North Carolina state then he became a coveted transfer. Guess what, they are going to be coveted transfer QB prospects every year. The perceived elite ones are going to cost you. Period.

Watched some of a replay of Mahomes first game at Texas Tech. Came off the bench and the first 4 plays resulted in 2 sacks and an interception. He looked pretty lost.

Could be true but every other AU recruiting reporter and insider basically said dad upped his price substantially and that's why we have bowwed out for now.

@Auburn93 Be careful pasting stuff from the Rant. A lot of what is posted over there comes from a pay site and we aren't supposed to paste that stuff on our site.

No disrespect but not so sure this is 100% accurate

JuJu seems very talented, but also not the best fit for our RPO scheme compared to KJ & Deuce. Sometimes moving on is the best choice in a negotiation like this. If JuJu has real interest in AU, then it'll sort itself out. But it may be too late if we get traction with KJ or Deuce and get one of them to Big Cat.

At this point, I'm most interested in KJ, Deuce a close 2nd, and JuJu last. But tbh Jared Smith has trumped them all temporarily given the CBs for AU this morning.

He is another who grew into what he was even at the NFL level. Being in Wisconsin, we are seeing the same thing with Jordan Love. Mahomes had a lot of potential but when he was drafted it was a potential pick. He also had the benefit of sitting and learning/playing for a coach who maximized his abilities . I am sure you already know this lol. Just to reinforce , yes the lower star guys noted did prove the doubters wrong but with caveats. Caveats that many in our fanbase won’t be patient to wait on. I do hope we are still in the running for Lewis, despite the rumors but I also would not at all be opposed to KJ.

For every 3 star guy that made it, there are 100 that did not. Those guys listed are exceptions and not the rule.

@Viper Could be wrong but I don't thinj any school has matched his dad's new asking price yet.

Don’t doubt it. Guaranteed dad is using other school’s offers as ammo to negotiate more.

I’ll say it again…you live less than 2 hours from a school that is offering you 1M. And you’re going to pass it up and use it as a bargaining tool to other schools? Schools that are multiple states away from home?

Not to mention if you go with USC, you might actually receive less net money than at Auburn due to the tax structure of California.  I hope a tax advisor is advising the family.

I can't remember which site I saw this on, maybe it was Dukes on ON3. But there were two people discussing  why JuJu may stick with USC for less money due to Lincoln Riley's success with getting QB's into the NFL as high draft picks. There were multiple examples of high draft picks although I don't remember any other than Caleb Williams, the No. 1 pick from this past year.

They then listed the example of Brock Vandergriff who was committed to Lincoln @ OU before Williams was and then later flipped to Georgia to be closer to home (and likely more money) if I remember the details correctly.  Who knows if Vandergriff would have beat out Williams or excelled like Williams did under Riley, but Brock wasn't even starting at Georgia when Williams got drafted No. 1.

So all that to say, Riley probably has a recruiting pitch that is stronger than geography and NIL (for some) with that story alone.

Lincoln Riley will start the 2024 season on the hot seat and may no longer be at USC after the 2024 season by mutual departure. He hasn't performed up to expectations, rumors of being a poor fit at USC, having multiple issues with administration/boosters and disappointing recruiting classes (currently ranked #25) considering very little to no competition (USC should be dominating the state) in the state of California.

Colorado? Okay. hahaha

Indiana? Okay. hahaha

If it is all about the $$$$, is he really going to prove his NFL cred here? Nope.

And USC, headed to the B1G where they will be even more insignificant than in the PAC12. Does he think he will transform them into a playoff team? Really?

Frankly, I don't care if he comes to Auburn or goes elsewhere. I'm really just tired of this whole NIL bidding war crap.

Really does seem like a very dumb short sighted move.  Of the 4 schools, Auburn seems the no brainer.  As stated in a post above, Riley may be on the hot seat  and Colorado/Indiana just seems idiotic from a football perspective.  If social media cred/income - ala Livvy Dunne - is your goal then Colorado with prime might be a smart choice.  I just don’t see him there for many more years.

im not objective at all, but auburn sure seems the logical choice for a plethora of reasons.

Most QB recruits look at success and development while in college and mainly, what coach will put me into the NFL. Lincoln Riley took Baker Mayfield, who was a walk-on from Texas Tech, and made him into a Heisman winner and #1 draft pick. Lincoln then took Kyler Murray, who transferred to Oklahoma from Texas A&M, and made him a Heisman winner and #1 draft pick. Lincoln then took Jalen Hurts, who had lost his job to a true freshman Tua Tagovaiola at Alabama, and made him into a Heisman runner-up to Joe Burrow in 2019 and he was drafted 2nd round. Then Lincoln made Caleb Williams a Heisman winner and #1 draft pick.

All of those QB's I mentioned just signed huge contracts in the NFL and are starting QB's for their teams. Caleb will start as a rookie for Chicago. Hurts even got to a Super Bowl. I know Lincoln Riley isn't involved in his past QB's success in the NFL but a young 17 or 18 year old senior in high school looks at those type things.

The past QB's that Lincoln Riley has coached to collegiate success is the #1 reason I've said all along that Juju moving all the way out to Los Angeles, rather than staying in the southeast, wouldn't shock me at all. If Juju and his family want the best shot at getting drafted, then Lincoln Riley has the best track record. If Juju and family are just looking for a payday, then that is a whole different story.
