toddc 13,197
Auburn running back Damari Alston ruled out indefinitely following shoulder injury Justin Hokanson Damari Alston carries the football for Auburn against Texas A&M on September 23, 2023. (Photo by Auburn Athletics) AUBURN — Damari Alston is the latest Auburn football player to join the list of the injured reserve. The sophomore running back suffered an injured right shoulder in the first half of the loss at Texas A&M and never returned. Alston underwent a MRI on Sunday morning after the team’s return to campus and was ruled out indefinitely. “Damari will miss a period of time for sure,” Hugh Freeze said on Monday. Alston joins Austin Keys and Keionte Scottas starters that have already suffered injuries that are keeping them off the field indefinitely. Alston has 26 carries for 131 yards and one touchdown on the season. The Tigers host No. 1 Georgia this Saturday, then enter into a bye week before a trip to LSU in three weeks. Taking away Payton Thorne and Holden Geriner‘s negative rushing numbers (mostly due to sacks), the Auburn rushing attack produced 181 yards on 29 carries against Texas A&M. During fall camp in August, Alston talked about his season goals after being named a member of the team’s Culture Council in the offseason. “My mentality coming into this next season was this: The offseason, I have to be different if I’m going to reach my goals,” Alston said. “I have to do things that other people aren’t doing. I have to take the next step. I’m doing what’s required, but I’m doing extra. That’s how I role. I have to be different. That’s how I approach this offseason. ““I want to have a good rushing season. My goal is 1,000 yards. I want to do well in the receiving game as well. I want to do anything I can do to take the team to a SEC Championship, and I want to win big games so we can bring Auburn to how it was.” Without Alston, transfer Brian Battie shined with 84 total yards on 10 touches against the Aggies. Expect Battie and freshman Jeremiah Cobb to pick up the slack from Alston’s absence, with Jarquez Hunterremaining RB1 in the rotation. WillMunny 1,589
Well, darn. He was my choice for RB1. Just loved his running style.

Win4AU 4,201
Silver lining is Battie was one of the few bright spots of the Texas A&M game. Cobb will get more chances to shine. Maybe Sean Jackson even gets some touches. Thankfully this is a position where Auburn has some quality depth.
maryland tiger 646
So many people were pushing for DA to be the main back over Jarquez. Well now you see why he can't be the main RB. He isn't big enough to take the pounding every week. That is nothing against him, he just isn't big enough.
nurbis 579
I see that he will be out with a dislocated shoulder but I do not see anything that says he had surgery. Where is that coming from?

He was injured diving for the fumble that ended up an incomplete pass. Diving for loose balls has always been an increased risk of injury, regardless of the size of the player.

Anyone could have gotten hurt on that play. Very poor blocking

TigerPAC 1,030
As above, he hurt himself diving after he had fumbled. Has nothing to do w his “size”. Anyone can hurt a shoulder doing the most mundane things, regardless if they are “big” enough. Edited September 25, 2023 by TigerPAC Spell

Well to me, JH doesn’t look nearly like the same back as the last two years and I don’t blame all of that on the line. Hope the big guy we have committed stays the course with us.

AURex 2,262
I really hate for this to happen. He was doing so well as @2 behind Hunter, and frankly, I would have liked seeing more touches for this young man. I suppose the old litany is "next man up," aqnd our RB room is deep, but I still hate it for him. He had worked hard and earned his spot.
