Popular Post StatTiger 3,188
“We've been able to run the football,” Freeze said. “If you're able to do that, you've got a fighting chance. I've said this before: It's hard for me to ever leave happy. I don't know if it means we're pretty good at running it or not very good at stopping it. We'll see soon. We've taken care of the ball offensively, and we've been able to run it -- which, teams I've coached that have been able to do that, I think you've got a fighting chance.” During the past five seasons, the 14 teams in the SEC have won 85 percent of their games, accounting for at least 55 percent of the combined rushing totals during a game. That win percentage increases to nearly 90 percent when accounting for 60 percent of the combined rushing totals. Auburn, during the past ten years, has won 85 percent of their games when accounting for at least 55 percent of the combined rushing totals and nearly 90 percent of their games when accounting for at least 60 percent of the combined rushing yardage. Auburn reached the 55% mark in 13 of 25 games under Harsin, compiling an 8-5 record when they did and a 3-9 record when they did not. Freeze's teams have reached the 55% mark in 63 of 126 games, winning 92 percent of those games. His Liberty teams were more prone to accomplish this goal (55%) than his Ole Miss teams (43%). IMO, I believe Freeze has grown to appreciate the running game and what it can mean for his pass offense, especially in the RPO game. 9 5

AUINSY 2,273
What I got from this was “60% of the time, it works every time”…but for real, great analysis, thanks for sharing! 1

aucanucktiger 1,896
It will not be surprising if folks look back & laugh on how we right now think the SEC will shake out this season. IMO many SEC teams this year have the potential to crash & burn (e.g. LSU, TN) or reach heights nobody expected (e.g. Miss St). A non hype analysis sees potential for some traditional D powerhouses to stumble on D much of this year. If we can get into shootouts, I can see Freeze pulling off some classic upset wins this season.
AURex 2,262
Just based on these stats, if you are okay running the ball, you have a 60% chance to win a game. Well, ya know, that includes Idaho Tater stats, and I'm just not gobbling up Idaho Tater numbers. Plus it includes Gus running the ball into the DL every first down for, like, 2 yards over and over and over. Fact is, during the past 10 years, Auburn has had some great rushing teams. So I'm really hoping CHF, staff and athletes can excel in the rushing game. And I hope the Auburn passing game can take an even greater step forward and figure out how to move the ball through the air, because BOTH are necessary to succeed in today's SEC. Okay, I'm unreasonably optimistic about this year's team. OL, RBs, QB, TE. Yes, I'm unreasonably optimistic. Because I think this year Auburn can do much better than those stats. And better than the expert prognosticators predict. WDE! Edited August 21, 2023 by AURex
