I was off with the wording but this was from the tax foundation.  I believe the top 50 percent pay 97.7 percent of all the taxes.  It’s funny though that some claim that the rich don’t pay enough.  The problem is the government doesn’t know how to spend money.   Hell, I’m a retired government employee and I know how it works.

In all, the top 1 percent of taxpayers accounted for more income taxes paid than the bottom 90 percent combined. The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid $723 billion in income taxes while the bottom 90 percent paid $450 billion.

Absolute amounts are misleading.

If you really want to compare tax burden - or shared responsibility -  it would be more relevant to see the difference in percentage of total income is paid into taxes by the very wealthy compared to everyone else.  And include all taxes, including sales and gas tax.

Maybe so.

But parties are still essential for organizing candidacies.  If either or both current party fades out,  new ones will take their place.

Meanwhile we've got either Democrat or "Republican" legislatures.  (And I deliberately put "Republican" in quotes.  They've already evolved  into a different party, and it's not conservative.)

And you should have put democrats in quotes. They have evolved into a different party guided by progressives, and no they are not your typical democrats. Unfortunately.

Exactly.  The choice is between MAGAs and progressives.

There's nothing conservative about MAGAs.

I disagree. Why not Republican conservative vs moderate Democrat? One can hope yes?

And one could certainly argue there is nothing traditionally democratic about a radical liberal/progressive.

To be accurate today there should be 4 parties: Republican (“Reagan”), Democratic (labor), Populist (maga), Progressive (socialist). Some overlap but distinctive enough.

Progressive "radicals" certainly don't rule the Democratic party the way MAGAs rule the Republican party.

If they did, Biden wouldn't be president.

And there is no such thing as Republican "conservative".  Well, there's a few - like Cheney and Hurt - but they have zero influence on the party.

:homer: So much wrong with your biased commentary. I literally have less than 30 minutes to make it to the tee box, so I'll leave it to true intellectuals to decipher. Should be fun.
