Dylan Brooks/2021 Recruiting Class

Dylan Brooks has entered the transfer portal. So this is what's left of the 2021 recruiting class:

  • Jarquez Hunter
  • Landen King
  • Colby Smith
  • Garnder Langlo
  • Cayden Bridges

That's it. 5 guys.

This is the year those guys should be leading the team.

This was the transitional class, so we can blame Gus and Harsin for this one!

Why are we losing this many D linemen?

Outside of Mba, we haven't lost any SEC level contributors

But man the 2021 class is like the 2008 class at this point.

Our roster looks like a program thats been on probation. For the first time in years, I have confidence that Auburn has a FB coach who really understands the need to recruit QUALITY players across the board and the HC’s role in acquiring those type players. Better days are ahead.

Luckily the transfer portal is a thing and we don't have a 3-9 season and a 4 - 5 year rebuild ahead of us.

Addition by subtraction. Our “losses” have been a good thing IMO.

When it's all said and done, the 2021 class of Gus leftovers+Harsin will have 1 single contributor in it.

Cowboy. That's it.

It's almost like we took an entire year off from recruiting.

Thank God for the transfer portal. But I think it's important to remember how bad recruiting has been the last couple years to set reasonable expectations for this roster.

Incredible. Almost impossible for a program like this to pull that off.

Don't look now....but the 2020 class is essentially as bad.

Tank Bigaby

Killan Zierer

Cam Riley (1 year part time contributor)

That's it. Not a single other.

2019 is a little better. Zero OL. 2018 too.

This may be the case, but after a solid comeback on the recruiting trail, I believe this one will hurt. We have ZERO pass rushers currently. This is easily a potential three year rebuild, with the way the kids can enter the portal at numerous times. I do wonder, was GM and BH staff unable to predict talent? A top 100 pick means nothing until proven on the field and this kid had quite possibly the worst coaching staff in AU history teaching him. Hence, did the current staff see such less potential in him? Portal or not, AU is looking at at least 2 more less than stellar seasons. Honestly, I believe we remain a middle tier SEC team for the foreseeable future. Hope I’m wrong, but any earlier excitement about this team is dissipating quickly, with no SEC caliber QB, WR or edge rushers.

That could make it faster too.

But a 3 year rebuild isn't really that bad. 10 wins in year 3 seems feasible

Wow!!!  That’s 3 years straight of absolutely dreadful recruiting!!!!

Heupel at TN is what to hope for and use as some type of barometer. He also inherited a mess. 7 wins the first season, 11 the next.

People can say what they want but we have been absolutely abysmal of developing Star talent, and in several cases, equally as bad as indetifying  the the top tier talent and not just their star rating. The amount of busts we've had over the past few years is just meh

That would be best case. Be interesting to see if they slip back due to AB play.

We'll probably have to portal hard again the next year or two before we can scale it back some and use it as complimentary vs priority

Good comparison in a lot of ways.   UT is the only other team that plays bama and uga every year.   They were a mess, not sure if their roster was as depleted as ours, but maybe.
On the other hand, every situation is unique, so while that may be a good barometer, I’m not firmly set on any kind of a W/L requirement to determine success these first couple of years.

Agree with you both. UT under Heupel is best case in year 2. I'm not expecting 11 wins.

But maybe it at least gives us hope. From the guy who is mostly pessimistic and asking for realistic expectations.

I wanted to do the trophy to maximize the type of reactions you got. But you’re spot on! Great observation and very intriguing thread, thanks for starting it.

#2 and #3 gone.

Langlo isn't an SEC player and will be gone soon too
