Not trying to hijack this topic but should a person who uses drugs legal or not be allowed to own a gun?

Including alcohol - which is undoubtedly the biggest problem.

Hell, that would be OK with me.

Dadeville shooting suspect denied youthful offender status

August 18

By WVUA 23 News Producer MJ Miller

Three suspects involved in a shooting at a sweet 16 birthday party in Dadeville were  back in court Thursday. The shooting left four people dead and more than 30 people injured in April 2023.

Brothers Willie and Johnny Brown and Wilson Hill Jr. applied for youthful offender status. They were all scheduled for status hearings Thursday morning.

While Hill and Willie Brown’s hearings were postponed until October, the judge denied Johnny Brown’s youthful offender status.

Three others are also charged in the shooting. Together they are:

  • Wilson LaMar Hill Jr., 20, of Auburn
  • Johnny Letron Brown, 20, of Tuskegee
  • Willie George Brown Jr., 19, of Auburn
  • Tyreese “Ty Reik” McCullough, 17, of Tuskegee
  • Travis McCullough, 16, of Tuskegee
  • A sixth suspect, a 15-year-old from Tuskegee

The six are each charged with four counts of reckless murder in connection with the April 15 shooting. Two Dadeville High School seniors, Phil Dowdell, 18, and Shaunkivia Nicole “KeKe” Smith, 17, were killed. Also killed were Marsiah Emmanuel “Siah” Collins, 19, and Corbin Holston, 23.

Survivors to the Associated Press described a bloody and chaotic scene as gunfire erupted at the birthday celebration for Dowdell’s sister. Investigators believe seven handguns were used during the shooting and that at least one may have been altered with an illegal “switch” to make it fire more rapidly.

Investigators have not discussed a motive or what they believe led to the shooting. How the shooting began and who fired first is expected to be a key issue for the defense as the case moves forward.

New court documents give timeline of Dadeville mass shooting

Published: Sep. 20

DADEVILLE, Ala. (WALA) - New court documents regarding the Dadeville mass shooting provide more details into what happened at the birthday party which left four dead and 32 injured.

According to the documents from the Aniah’s Law hearing for Sherman Peters, the 15-year-old who will now be charged as an adult, multiple armed individuals attended the birthday party which was held in a “relatively small room” with an exit and an entrance.

Court documents state that a number of those armed individuals were asked to leave, but did not comply which was followed by an altercation with a masked individual who arrived shortly after.

That altercation lead to the “discharge of more than 90 rounds” inside the building which resulted in four deaths, according to court documents.

Peters admitted during testimony that he was in possession of a 9-millimeter at the scene and discharged it multiple times inside the building.

One of the deceased individuals was the masked subject who arrived at a later time, according to court documents.

Peters was not granted bond.

Peters is a co-defendants with Willie Brown, brothers Travis and Ty Reik McCullough, Wilson Hill and Johnny Brown, according to investigators.

Youthful offender status denied for three of the suspects in the Dadeville mass shooting

Oct 30

Three of the six suspects in the Dadeville mass shooting have been denied youthful offender status.

Circuit Judge William Thornton issued the order Monday.

20 year old Wilson Lamar Hill, Jr., 19 year old Willie George Brown, Jr., and a third defendant, who was not identified in court documents because he is under the age of 18, appeared in front of Judge Thornton last week to determine whether they will be tried as youthful offenders or as adults.

According to Alabama law, suspects under 21 who are charged with a crime can apply for youthful offender status to prevent them from receiving the same sentencing as adults.

Along with Hill and Brown, Johnny Brown, Tyreese McCullough, Travis McCullough and Sherman Peters III have been indicted in the shooting left four people dead and 32 others injured.

According to court documents, Hill and Brown will be arraigned on December 28.  No word on the third suspect at this time.
