This is like a parody of what Democrats joke about Conservatives saying....This actual real life GOP congressman is a living breathing SNL skit making fun of Republicans...except he's real and 100% serious in what he says.

On the eve of another school shooting in his own State:

https://thehill.com/homenews/house/3921950-tennessee-republican-responds-to-school-shooting-were-not-gonna-fix-it/

Quote

“It’s a horrible, horrible situation,” Burchett told reporters. “And we’re not gonna fix it. Criminals are gonna be criminals.”

my daddy (...) told me … ‘Buddy, if somebody wants to take you out and doesn’t mind losing their life, there’s not a whole heck of a lot you can do about it,’” he added.

Burchett also said he doesn’t see “any real role” for Congress to play in reducing gun violence, other than to “mess things up.”

“I don’t think you’re gonna stop the gun violence,” the congressman said. “I think you gotta change people’s hearts.”

That's it people....pack it in...Republicans are starting to accept that dead children and regular mass shootings are just going to be a fact of American life now and there's literally nothing that can be done about it.

Congress cant and shouldn't do anything.....your Republican elected officials are saying that they shouldn't and wont do anything about school shootings or do anything to make America safer for me or for you. As long as they and their family have federal protection and money for their own security, its "best of luck" to everyone else

Quote

When asked about how to protect children, like his own daughter, while in school, Burchett said he has opted to homeschool his daughter.

Don't want your kid to die in a school shooting? the GOP says you'll just have to homeschool them yourself or accept they might die.

I think you have to start electing some people who actually have one (a heart).

This isn't about a Constitutional amendment written in 1791 by a group of men  who knew nothing about firearms other than a muzzle loaded musket.  That defies all common sense.

This is about money, politics, the power of special interests, indifference, cruelty, lack of humanity, lack of intelligence, lack of courage.  This is how you destroy society.  And, weakening the government, destroying society is how you institute authoritarianism.

Yeah. Like he said changing people’s hearts.  You have no answers for all that stuff you just said. You can’t legislate morality. It has to come from within. A killer like her (not a him) has a heart that has been hardened by satan against God, Jesus, society, life itself. Laws against certain guns do not address the problem, only a symptom. Kind of like taking Tylenol for a broken leg.

That's nonsense. Nobody is trying to legislate "morality" we're trying to take deadly weapons of war out of the hands of people who want to use them to murder other people. I have a strong feeling that Jesus would be all for that. He talks a lot about peace and loving your neighbor and not a lot about constantly arming yourself with real life weapons to fight and kill other people who wrong you.

Why do we make it illegal to buy and possess bombs? Because when given bombs people will start bombing other people and innocents.

Using your logic no weapons or bombs should be illegal to own because if everyone has a "good heart" then they wont use those weapons to kill innocents, and you cant legislate away evil? Might as well just let sporting good stores sell bombs for people to buy to go blow up ant hills and do home demolition with. A bomb doesn't kill people...the person who arms the bomb kills people after all.

Jesus...

You see no value in removing an unnecessary weapon from society, a weapon that makes the most novice potential killer highly efficient?

How many more have to die before you admit this is about votes and money from the NRA, nothing more?

Do you really believe you should use Jesus' name in support of the gun lobby?

I think it would be wise to reexamine who you believe Jesus is, what he stands for.

Saw this article from Whitmire about how Children and young people are increasingly valuing patriotism, religion, and having kids less and less as years go on. Could it be because they look at the world around them and realize that the Country they are supposed to love, the religious people who are supposed to do whats best for them, and the politicians who are supposed to guide America into the future don't act like they care about our kids or our safety?

If schools have to be built into prisons, if school kids have to have weekly shooter drills where they hide in closets, under desks, and in have to be taught what to do if one of their classmates gets their head blown off beside them by a bullet......and the politicians and adults in America decide that is ok...and that their views on guns are more important than children and lives...why would young people value America or feel patriotic? Why would they support religions led by men who support the poltiicans who value guns over lives? Why would they want to raise kids in a society that has turned into this?

"You can't stop abortion.  People will still seek them out and get them.  You have to change people's hearts." - said no moral conservative ever.

We absolutely can and already do "legislate morality."  Almost every law on the books is a legislation of morality.  It tells us what we value, what safeguards and measures we've agreed to to promote or prevent it, and what punishments and degree of punishment we assign to those who violate it.  The issue is not whether or not we can legislate morality.  It's "what kind of" and "whose" morality will be legislated.

Who decides which weapons are unnecessary?  You? If we outlaw ARs will you shut your pie hole? After a couple of shotgun or pistol shootings you going to demand they be removed too? You gotta really be careful when the government takes guns from the population.

None. What does the NRA have to do with it? They don't sell guns and ammo. Democrats have pandered every group they can name for votes with outright lies or decades. They have killed 60 million babies, mostly black, under the guise of "health care".  Don't lecture me about votes.

I did not use Jesus name in support of the gun lobby.  That is you. I used Jesus name regarding evil hardened hearts that make people evil, and His desire and ability to reach those hearts and redeem the sinner.  You, ICHY, are the one who needs to re-examine who you believe Jesus is, and what He stands for.

Let’s just blame everyone but the person who shot the 3 kids and 3 adults.   Let’s take away rights from law abiding citizens.   Let’s use a false equivalency of owning bombs to owning firearms.   Let’s talk about banning something but not talk about mental illness, decline in common sense, decline in common courtesy, decline in respecting others and the respect for life.

Well, as a country we've been taking your advise the last few decades. Not taking any gun away, talking about mental illness, talking about the decline of morals, talking about the lack of religion and respect for life. A whole lot of thoughts and prayers have been sent up.

We've been doing all of what you suggest for a long time and yet we keep having school shootings and mass shootings. They aren't getting better, they aren't decreasing, they aren't getting less severe.

Your suggestion has been tried and proven to not work...maybe for the sake of our nations children and future we should try something different?

the bottom line is many of you are putting weapons grade assault rifles ahead of the lives of children. you can come up with all the bluster you want.how many scholl shooters do you see just bringing a six shot revolver to kill a bunch of people with? there is a reason the assault rifles are so popular. they even put legitimate fear in cops that have to go stop these people.

Would you still be singing the same tune about gun rights if someone with an AR-15 kills your children or grandchildren? A genuine question.

Hard to say, but...

A drunk driver has hit a family member. and while I am 100% for stiffer penalties for drunk driving and for people losing their license (maybe permanently) It never did occur to me to rally people behind the cause of outlawing alcohol or vehicles.

I would like to know exactly what has been tried?  Please tell me one thing that has been tried differently from the talk of taking one of the g do founding rights of this nation?   Mental illness treatment has fallen off in the last 50 years.   It wouldn’t be going out on a limb if I were to say that everyone of these school shootings have been because of mental illness.   And also more times than not,  the family of the individual knew they were ill.   Mental facilities have all but gone away.   But you keep on preaching about what hasn’t worked and just want to ban guns.
I could probably guess that you don’t even own a firearm or even like them.

WHO mentioned left or right?   Funny is you did.   You do know that gun laws are for LAW ABIDING people!   The criminals and mentally unstable people aren’t going to abide by the law.

That might hold more weight if these school shooters weren't getting their guns legally. The Nashville shooter had no criminal record and Tennessee doesn't have a red flag law so this person was a law abiding gun owner....till she/he shot out the door into the school and started killing.

Welp, that it's folks. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯   Since criminals and unstable people won't follow the law, let's abolish all laws.  What's the use of laws against murder, rape, or child pornography when folks will just do these things anyway?

The bottom line is bad people do bad things. That’s the problem. Democrats don’t care because to them there are no bad people. There is always an excuse for bad behavior that is not their own personal responsibility. They make bad choices but democrats do not desire to hold them accountable. Instead they blame everything and everybody except the perp. They even hold fund raisers by future VPs to help them make bail so they can continue their evil ways unabated. Helps keep them voting democrat but to you it’s worth it. Do you really think an AR ban will keep evil people from obtaining one? It never has and never will. When you constantly excuse bad behavior with no punishment just platitudes then you are putting evil people and their actions ahead of our children’s safety.

I think you have it backwards. Democrats want to restrict guns to prevent guns from falling into bad people's hands. In the Nashville situation, she was able to legally buy 7 guns even though she wasn't mentally stable as she was seeking mental help. This absolutely was preventable.

Preventable perhaps by treating the perp for the mental illness he has. You can’t possibly believe that a person who will kill indiscriminately won’t obtain a weapon because it is illegal. So he buys a shotgun and a handgun.  He still can probably kill 6 unarmed targets in a gun free zone with just those weapons. Heck take ole Joes advice. Get a 12 gauge and if somebody you don’t know knocks on the door shoot them with the shotgun through the door. Criminals don’t follow the law. They never have and never will. All you do is create a black market for whatever gun you ban. The problem though, that you seem to ignore, is solely with the perp. You will NEVER stop killing until you can change people’s hearts.

The perp was being treated for mental illness. It obviously didn't help. They shouldn't have been able to legally buy a gun period until they were mentally stable.

I don't want to ban guns. I want to add barriers (independent mental exam, background check, and gun storage and safety class) to purchasing guns. It is a life threatening weapon and should be handled that way in route to purchase. This will also cut down on the "anger" purchases as they will have to take time to calm down to accomplish those tasks.

If you want to prevent a black market from occurring, require all guns to be registered and hold the gun owners accountable if their registered gun is used in a crime. At that point, you would only have to worry about guns illegally entering the country which should be easier to prevent than drugs.

So if a criminal steals your gun and uses it in a crime it’s your fault?  Blame the victim of the theft? Why don’t we blame the shrink? Good to hear you don’t want to ban guns. That seems to be at odds with the democrat leftists.
