Tank Bigsby's Climb to Top 10 Status

Tank Bigsby has been such a key piece to our offense for three years in a row. Unfortunately, we haven't had the consistency in coaching, play calling, or blocking to tap into his ultimate potential. Still, Auburn has had a massive amount of success at the running back position in its history. Let's see where Tank stand with likely only five more games left in his Auburn career.

Rushing Attempts:

  1. Carnell Williams - 741 (+281)
  2. Ben Tate - 678 (+218)
  3. Joe Cribbs - 657 (+197)
  4. Bo Jackson - 650 (+190)
  5. James Brooks - 621 (+161)
  6. Stacy Danley - 526 (+66)
  7. Kerryon Johnson - 519 (+59)
  8. Tre Mason - 516 (+56)
  9. Ronnie Brown - 513 (+53)
  10. Stephen Davis - 488 (+28)
  11. Secdrick McIntyre - 462 (+2)
  12. Tank Bisby - 460

Rushing Yards:

  1. Bo Jackson - 4303 (+1846)
  2. Carnell Williams - 3831 (+1374)
  3. James Brooks - 3523 (+1066)
  4. Joe Cribbs - 3368 (+911)
  5. Ben Tate - 3321 (+864)
  6. Tre Mason - 2979 (+522)
  7. Stephen Davis - 2811 (+354)
  8. Brent Fullwood - 2789 (+332)
  9. Ronnie Brown - 2707 (+250)
  10. Onterio McCalebb - 2586 (+129)
  11. Kerryon Johnson - 2494 (+37)
  12. Tank Bigsby - 2457

Rushing Touchdowns:

  1. Carnell Williams - 45 (+24)
  2. Bo Jackson - 43 (+22)
  3. Joe Cribbs - 34 (+13)
  4. Tre Mason - 32 (+11)
  5. Kerryon Johnson - 32 (+11)
  6. Stephen Davis - 30 (+9)
  7. Ronnie Brown - 28 (+7)
  8. James Brooks - 24 (+3)
  9. Ben Tate - 24 (+3)
  10. Brent Fullwood - 24 (+3)
  11. Onterio McCalebb - 24 (+3)
  12. Reggie Ware (and Nick Marshall but I'm not counting him for this list) 23 (+2)
  13. Tank Bigsby - 21

Through seven games tank has 99 carries, 524 rushing yards, 6 rushing touchdowns, and is averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Also worth noting, he has the lowest average yards per carry BEFORE contact in the country.

His averages for the season: 14.14 carries per game, 74.86 yards per game, and .86 rushing touchdowns per game. If he maintains these averages he should complete the season with roughly 170 carries, 899 rushing yards, and 10 rushing touchdowns.

That would help him finish 6th in carries, 7th in rushing yards, and 8th in rushing touchdowns. Making him definitively a top 10 running back in Auburn's history. Just something to track as we suffer through the rest of this season!

War Eagle.

He's hovering close to Ronnie Brown in most categories and could overtake him (maybe not TDs).  I consider Brown, who was at AU 5 years, to be a better back because he also had elite catching abilities.  Not bad for Tank considering he played for AU during the dark ages.  The record books show he was able to produce and I also expect him to get drafted high.

Feel so bad for him. He could've been top 5

It's been stated before that he would've been incredible in the 2013 offense but hell, put him on the 2017 roster and whew.

Hopefully Tank can make some noise in the NFL. I know RB's aren't what they used to be, but he could help with recruiting.

It would be something else if they were able to pull something together for the last 3 home games against Arkansas, TAMU, and WKU and let Tank score a few more touchdowns at home to end his career on a good note.

I hope we haven't given up by WKU and Tank gets a 250 type day to bolster his resume a little bit. We really need a RB to be a consistent starter in the NFL again... it's been a minute.

Behind an actual good OL he would’ve been real high on all those lists. It’s sad in his possible past year in college he probably won’t even see a bowl game which I doubt he would’ve played in anyway

I selfishly would love to get him one more year but it wouldn't make sense for him to return for a third head coach and a new system with a new OL.

The one positive Tank can take from his Auburn career is not having a lot of carries. Small consolation, but the pros dont like RBs who have been ran into the ground during college.

That ain’t always true. The pros just want good backs. Najee Harris had a million carries and was still took in the first round

Even with the terrible OL, I still think Gus’s way of calling ball (e.g forcing the run) would’ve got him a lot higher. Not good for his health or for the team probably, but that’s another factor to keep in mind I suppose

Every time I see Stephen Davis' name I spend the next 15 minutes watching highlights. One more year and he would have hit 4000 yards.

That blocking though!

There are defensive linemen, and linebackers on the ground 10-15 yards from the line of scrimmage everywhere.

I must have counted at least half a dozen pancakes just  by Willie Anderson himself.

Tight ends knocking edge guys ten yards off the ball, wide receivers knocking guys down.

Haven't seen blocking like that by Auburn in years.

It's beautiful.

He’s one of the best we’ve had in a while, but has had to do most of it on his own. OL looked better in the second half last week though.

I just feel sorry for the guy.  If he had been behind even an average Auburn offensive (average meaning over the years since the Dye era began) he would have been right up there with the best we have had (except Bo of course).  I hope he can get out of this season without injury and the pro scouts will see past our crappy OL coaching.  He is talented enough to be a top 10 pick in the draft in my book.  Hard to believe how that talent has been wasted.   I hope the new coach can hang onto Hunter too he could also be a stud behind a well coached OL.

I don’t think NFL only drafts RB’s that have great Ok’s. They seem to get the great ones no matter what.

I was gonna say the exact. Same. Thing. 😞 maybe one day again, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Great info and thank you. I'll wait until Tank is done before I rank on my personal AU RB favorites. But since you asked: Ben Tate is one of my all-time favorite RBs at Auburn. #WDE
