It’s Thursday night, so it could only mean one thing: Bryan Harsin’s weekly appearance on “Tiger Talk.”

The second-year Auburn coach joined hosts Andy Burcham and Brad Law to preview Saturday’s matchup against San Jose State. The Tigers (1-0) and the Spartans (1-0) will square off Saturday at 6 p.m. in Jordan-Hare Stadium, with the game airing on ESPNU.

Bryan Harsin: Don’t necessarily expect 50/50 split at quarterback

San Jose State will be making its first trip to the Plains since 2015, but the Spartans present a level of familiarity for Harsin. He faced SJSU coach Brent Brennan twice during his time as Boise State’s head coach, and Spartans quarterback Chevan Cordeiro previously faced Harsin’s Broncos teams three times across two seasons while he was at Hawaii.

Below is a quick recap of Harsin’s remarks on this week’s show:

BRYAN HARSIN

-- Andy Burcham notes that he gets texts from his wife during the game, and it helps. Bryan Harsin responds that maybe his wife, Kes, should text him at halftime with adjustments.

-- Tuesdays are the heavy install day. Wednesday is a little better. Thursday they refer to as PPT, or “Perfect Practice Thursday.”

-- Harsin expects to get some more of Auburn’s true freshmen involved this weekend against SJSU.

-- Notes that SJSU’s offensive coordinator is a great play-caller. Harsin is familiar with SJSU from his time at Boise State, since both teams are in the Mountain West.

-- Hopes coaches made the point clear to the team this week that they’re doing to get San Jose State’s best this weekend. If players understand that, Harsin expects Auburn to step its game up.

-- SJSU QB Chevon Cordeiro is a dual-threat transfer from Hawaii. He’s still getting acclimated. Harsin notes SJSU didn’t play its best game last week against FCS Portland State, but he expects Cordeiro to play better this week.

-- Harsin challenged Auburn’s secondary to make more plays on the ball this week.

-- Biggest difference from the Mountain West to the SEC, Harsin says from experience, is the speed of the game. Jokes that SEC stands for “Speed Eliminates Competition.”

-- SJSU gave up seven sacks in Week 1. Auburn only got one against Mercer, which moved the pocket a bunch. Auburn’s pass rush hopes to take advantage of a more traditional drop-back passing game this weekend. “We believe that sacks kill drives.”

-- Bryan Harsin is asked if “Top Gun” is one of his favorite movies. He says the players only really know the sequel that came out this summer. Re: the “Top Gun” video Auburn shot with its quarterbacks, Harsin said the guys had fun with it. He says he had an easy time remembering the lines from the movie. He also shouts out Auburn’s creative team for the work they do.

-- Harsin was “scared as hell” when defensive tackle Jeffrey M’ba lifted him onto his shoulders in the locker room after the Week 1 win.

-- Re: the running into the kicker call against Auburn, Harsin said they submitted the play to the league after the game for an explanation. The reason the call was correct is because the ball stayed within the tackle box, even with the errant snap. Protection applies to the punter all the way back, so long as it’s in the tackle box and the punter attempts a natural punting move.

-- Harsin is asked about his podcast, and he says the one last week with the team captains was one of the most enjoyable ones. “What I like about the podcast is it’s a chance for me to sit down with our coaches and share their stories. There’s a lot of valuable information in there.”

-- On SJSU: “A lot of respect for them, and I really mean that.... At the same time, it’s really about us.”

-- Last week was about urgency and execution. This week is about being fast and physical.
