Going into the 2022 football season, Auburn Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Tiger’s roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Bryan Harsin this season.

Auburn needed to add experienced players to the cornerback room this offseason and they did just that. One of these players was Oregon Duck cornerback DJ James, who returned to his home state after spending three seasons out west.

Depth Chart Overview

The Auburn cornerback will have to replace their top corner in Roger McCreary, who is headed to the NFL. However, Auburn has a deep and experienced cornerback room and Oregon transfer D.J. James will have a chance to make an immediate impact.

Nehemiah Pritchett and Jaylin Simpson look like Auburn’s top two corners but James is right behind them. He became a starter for Oregon last season and will help bring some experience to the room.

If the coaching staff likes Pritchett or Simpson at nickel then James could certainly become a starter at cornerback in his first season at Auburn.
