Cam didn’t come to Auburn just because of his love for Auburn

Please tell us why Cam did come to Auburn.

I though it had to do with bike/scooter lanes but wasn’t sure, thanks.

Agreed. NCAA is the problem. It can't be reformed, so we need a new league imo.

If anyone is getting mad/upset that a HS kid can make 6-7 figures to play college sports they are 1 or 2 things:

1. Envious

2. Socialist

The best players have always gotten paid. Always. This is a fact. This is nothing new. The only thing different about it is that the numbers are going up because you can legally pay and companies can sponsor.

The fact this is an Auburn board and some people aren't comfortable with kids getting paid. Boy, do I have some stories for you.

That sounds great, but what we can't lose sight of is the fact that this is a college sport.  Athletics exists as part of the overall university.  Form another league and have the teams be city teams or club teams with no connection to college sports if the motive is only to make money.  The motive has to be to educate these student athletes in addition to seeing them succeed on the field.  That isn't a dream.  That is real.

I think what is fair for the Goose (College Coaches) is certainly fair for the Gander (college players). We have let the market set the price for Coaches forever. Now time for the players. Colleges (donors) just have to decide if they are going to play or not.

Life is not fair.

Who regulates that?

Seriously, the "non-revenue" generating sports do well at Auburn and I'm sure the university would pay the full ride in a heartbeat if they could. Something is preventing them from offering full scholarships and that something prevents  every school as well, not just SEC and not just Auburn.  What's preventing every student-athlete from getting a full ride in every sport?

The NCAA.   But this is part of what I’m talking about.

I don’t want it to be separated from the school. It wouldn’t be the same. Kids can go to school, play sports, and get paid all at the same time.

In this context it really appears as it is getting much more advocacy for players and  Players finally getting much needed impact on their playing careers. Not all are going to make the best decisions but not all decisions that will be made will wind u to be poor ones either.

I don't have a problem with players getting paid something, but we cannot turn the sport into a bidding war.  If we do, the result will eventually be fewer opportunities for everyone to attend college on scholarship.

My concern is not with kids getting some money.  My concern is bidding on players and the unintended consequences that this will bring on itself.

It's already a bidding war. They can just be public with it now. I don't think that every single big-time recruit is swayed by money, but it plays a lot into it.

I understand your concern though and I think it's a valid point.

I'm more worried about ESPN ruining the sport than the NIL business. Corporate CFB sucks. We're already on the decline of the sport. We just left the peak of the sport (2010's) imo. Expanded playoff will turn half the season into a snooze fest. Big time players will start sitting out non-conference games. The SECCG will eventually become completely meaningless. It's sad.

I certainly agree that there will be unintended consequences. There always are when long standing logjams of basic freedoms are removed. The ideas that our (players) have lived with for so long have really made them to be the last ones invited to the table. I do agree that College sports will change. More than likely go to a sub NFL type professional league. Still needs to be the path we take. IMO of course.

Thank you. Yes, things will change. What folks who keep whining about these changes continue to ignore is that different doesn't mean worse.

Just basic fear of the unknown. I mean, they're literally saying it. "Unintended consequences". By all means, keep bemoaning things that you can't even name.
