Top questions for Bo Nix at SEC Media Days

Zac Blackerby
2-3 minutes

Bo Nix and Owen Pappoe are joining Bryan Harsin in Hoover for SEC Media Days and Nix will be on the receiving side of a flurry of questions.

Nix is one of the more polarizing players in all of the SEC because of his combination of potential, experience, and what the SEC still doesn’t know about what he can do.

He will face questions having to do with the new coaching staff, the transfer portal, and how it has had an impact on Auburn’s roster, Nix’s protection up front, and more.

Let’s go through and predict some of the biggest questions he will be asked on the largest stage of the summer in the SEC.

It was no secret that Nix and Gus Malzahn were close and had a good relationship. Now, he will need to cultivate that relationship with Harsin and the staff.

Auburn is beginning a new era of Tiger football and with that comes a ton of changes. Both the scheme and the staff are different on the offensive side of the ball. Nix will have answers ready about the comfort that he has in this new offense.

There are several different opinions about the offensive line based on where you look but when watching Nix last season, it is clear that he did not trust his protection. He rolled out of the pocket early and often, even when the protection was there.

Nix struggled with consistency in 2020 largely due to inconsistent throwing mechanics and a lack of sound quarterback teachings. Expect Nix to share stories on how hard he’s working to fix the little things over the course of the summer.

Robertson’s addition to the offense will provide Nix with another option in the passing game. High praise towards the newest Auburn Tigers will be a feature of Auburn’s time at SEC Media Days.

Auburn went out and got one of the biggest quarterback names in the transfer portal and based on TJ Finley’s quotes to Auburn recruiting writers, Finley was told that he had a chance to fight for the starting job.

Top questions for Owen Pappoe at SEC Media Days

Lance Dawe
2-3 minutes

Owen Pappoe, a.k.a The Freak, will be alongside Bo Nix and Bryan Harsin at SEC Media Days next week.

Pappoe has been an exceptional linebacker during his two seasons at Auburn, displaying the ability to tackle in space, as well as the ability to drop back in pass coverage. Along with Zakoby McClain, Pappoe forms one of the best linebacker corps in the SEC.

Let’s go through some of the questions that Pappoe might have to face during Media Days.

Auburn’s new defensive coordinator did not impress during his time with Vanderbilt but had an impressive stint with the Stanford Cardinal back in 2011-2013. He should emotionally and schematically bolster a defense that has a subpar 2020 season.

Auburn will be running a 3-4 scheme under Mason. Whether it will help the Tigers improve is yet to be determined. Expect Pappoe to praise the new system and provide details on how he and his teammates are coming along.

Auburn needs a leader to emerge on the defensive line in 2021. The defensive backfield has Roger McCreary and vocal leader Smoke Monday. They need to be strong in their final seasons with the Tigers. Pappoe should get folks excited about the veteran presences they have defensively.

Auburn picked up quite a few transfers in the offseason, a lot of them on defense. Expect Pappoe to give some insight as to which guys will immediately make an impact for the Tigers in 2021.

Auburn’s defense in 2020 was easily the worst of the Kevin Steele era. Auburn struggled in all major statistical categories compared to years prior. With so much talent on the roster, it’s hard to believe that the Tigers will continue to free fall defensively. Look for Pappoe to address last year’s results and explain how Auburn will improve this season.

I would have rather sent Tank Bigsby honestly. Bo will get the same questions we've heard a bajillion times.

Maybe I'm blind, but I don't see a single question in any of these articles.  Not a single one of these is a question.
