Auburn is very excited about its RB No. 1 in 2021.

Phenom Tank Bigsby returns after a breakout freshmen season in which he had the second-most rushing yards of any FBS freshman, as well as the second-most rushing yards by an Auburn freshman, behind Michael Dyer. Shaun Shivers, who is entering his final season with the Tigers, has big expectations for his performance in this new Mike Bobo offense. Add freshman Jarquez Hunter and Central Michigan transfer Jordan Ingram, and Auburn’s backfield is one more back (Damari Alston from the 2022 class?) away from being an elite unit.

Let’s rank the backs as we move closer to fall camp.

4. Jordan Ingram

Originally signed with Central Michigan, Ingram transferred to Auburn after not seeing the field for the Chippewas in 2020. The former three-star prospect out of Mobile, Alabama Ingram rushed for 1,394 yards and 18 touchdowns during his senior season at St. Paul’s.

3. Jarquez Hunter

Neshoba Central’s Jarquez Hunter (27) runs against Ridgeland on Friday, October 25, 2019, at Ridgeland High School in Ridgeland, Miss.

Hunter, Mississippi’s 2020 Mr. Football rushed for 1,687 yards and 22 touchdowns on 226 attempts while catching 17 passes for 234 yards and two scores. In three seasons as a starter, he rushed for more than 5,700 yards and 77 touchdowns. He should see the field sparingly in 2021, but be a significant factor as Auburn’s backup in 2022. Hunter is an exceptional athlete and holds a promising future with Auburn.

2. Shaun Shivers

Fan-favorite Shaun Shivers has spoken highly of Mike Bobo’s downhill running attack. The team captian believes that he will have his best season yet on the Plains under the new offensive coordinator.  Shivers has 933 career rushing yards with the Tigers, and regardless of how much he improves in 2021, fans will remember him fondly for his 11-yard run in the 2019 Iron Bowl where he ran over Xavier McKinney en route paydirt.

1. Tank Bigsby

On the coattails of an impressive freshman campaign, Bigsy enters the fall with legitimate Heisman buzz. His ceiling is the roof. If he can stay healthy, Auburn should rely on him heavily while the offense breaks in a young receiving core. He should be the first Auburn running back to eclipse a thousand rushing yards since Kerryon Johnson’s 2017 season.
