Player success under Harsin: By the Numbers

AUBURN, Ala—As the New Year rings in, Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin will begin to put his staff together and implement his system for the program in the coming weeks and months.

As a head coach, Harsin has exactly 100 games under his belt. In those 100 games, he has an impressive 76-24 record (.760 winning percentage), including five 10-win seasons.

The tremendous team success has also equated into his players having incredible seasons and careers, not just on the offensive side of the ball, but on defense and special teams as well.

Here is a breakdown of some of the individual successes under Harsin's tutelage.

    OFFENSE
** Mentored the two most prolific quarterbacks in Boise State history in Kellen Moore and Brett Rypien.

** A 2010 Heisman Trophy finalist, Moore is Boise State's all-time leader in total offense (14,534), passing yards (14,667), completions (1,157), passing efficiency (168.98) and touchdowns thrown (142). He won a school-record 50 games as a starter and was a three-time conference offensive player of the year.

** Quarterback Brett Rypien was the 2018 Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year. Rypien concluded his career as the Mountain West's all-time leader in career 300-yard passing games (21), completions (1,036) and passing yards (13,581). He also ranked second in league history in both wins by a starting quarterback (37) and career attempts (1,619), and tied for second in career touchdown passes (90).

** Part of the second-longest 1,000-yard rusher streak in college football history. Boise State had 11 straight seasons with a 1,000-yard rusher and Harsin was a part of eight of those, including six as head coach.

** Six consecutive years of 1,000-yard rushers from 2014-19, including three of the top five seasons in school history. In 2014, Jay Ajayi rushed for a school record 2,358 yards.

** Four 1,000-yard receivers including a single-season record of 1,511 yards set by Cedrick Wilson in 2017.

** As a head coach at Boise State, his quartebacks registered 27 300-yard passing games, while his running backs notched 44 100-yard rushing games and receivers accumulated 52 100-yard receiving games.

    DEFENSE
** Curtis Weaver made it three-straight MW Player of the Year honors for the Broncos in 2019, following Rypien's nod in 2018 and Leighton Vander Esch's Defensive Player of the Year award in 2017.

** Weaver established the MW career sacks record (34.0) in just three seasons. His 13.5 sacks in 2019 and 34.0 for his career are both Boise State records in the modern press box stat era.

** In seven years, Boise defenders received 33 all-conference honors, including 26 in the last five seasons.

    SPECIAL TEAMS
** Avery Williams won back-to-back Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Year honors in 2019 and 2020. Williams was the only player in the nation in 2020 to be in the top 10 in both punt returns and kick returns

** Placekicker Tyler Rausa booted 25 field goals in 2015, the most in program history.

I’m hoping some recruits are getting this information, as well as those considering the portal.
