Popular Post StatTiger 3,188
Game #6 Statistical Evaluation (LSU Game) I don’t believe the most ardent Auburn fan would believe Auburn could amass over 500-yards and 48 points against LSU with Seth Williams and Tank Bigsby accounting for a combined 142-yards. Chad Morris did an exceptional job of spreading the football around with Bo Nix (rushing), Anthony Schwartz, and Eli Stove, accounting for a combined 290-yards. The offense played a near-perfect game as the Tigers continue to improve as the season progresses. Bo Nix had the best performance of his collegiate career, totaling 381-yards of total offense and four touchdowns. His passer rating of 221.2 was the second-best performance by an Auburn quarterback against LSU, slightly behind Ben Leard’s 223.6 performance in 1999. The 2020 offense continues to build on its identity, and Bo Nix is settling in as a true dual-threat quarterback. Before the Ole Miss game, Chad Morris intended to take advantage of Nix’s desire to run and move around the pocket, and it has worked well the past two weeks. During the past three games, Nix is averaging 337-yards of total offense per game and has accounted for 7 touchdowns. Auburn’s 35 of 37 statistical report card was the highest percentage (94.6) over the past 152 games (2009-2020). The only categories the defense failed was on first down, allowing 6.06 yards per play, and three & out series. The starting defense held LSU to 4.4 yards per play on first down, up until Auburn was ahead 48-3. The starting defense allowed only 226-yards and three points during LSU’s first 12 possessions. Four of the 12 possessions defended went 3 & out (33.3 percent), giving the starting defense a perfect score. Kevin Steele’s defense came into the game, holding LSU to 37 percent below their scoring average during the last four meetings combined. The Tigers added to the impressive statistic by holding LSU to 74 percent below their scoring average. The defense smothered the LSU running game while adding 5 QB hurries and 3 sacks. The defense forced three turnovers, which translated to 21 Auburn points. It was the perfect mix of the Auburn defense and offense playing in unison like we have not seen since the 2017 season. The dominating win comes at a perfect time as the team moves into their bye week. The extra week off will allow the team to rest and come down from cloud-nine, before taking on Mississippi State. In Auburn’s season's grand scheme, this was just another victory, and no championship trophies will be dealt out for the impressive victory. It represents the team’s ability to improve as the season progresses and the fact the players and coaches have moved on since the embarrassing defeat to South Carolina. However, it doesn’t change the challenge ahead for the Tigers, as no easy games are remaining on the slate. Auburn was focused and well prepared for LSU this Saturday, but they can continue to improve to reach the ceiling of their talent level. It has been a couple of years since Auburn delivered this dominating of a performance against a major rival, and the players now know what they are capable of if they remain committed moving forward. LSU and Auburn came into this game, hoping to set the stage for a strong finish and Auburn earned the right to become a better team than the one that opened the season against Kentucky. soblfly 33
Am I the only one who believes LSU rolled over? This isn't your typical LSU team. They lost to a subpar Miss St team.
weagl1 1,812
Stuart has Auburn ever had a game against an SEC opponent where both the offense and defense had a perfect score (16/16) using your criteria? I think you maybe added the “bonus points” deal which allowed the defense to get to the perfect score even though a couple of things failed largely due to Gus emptying the bench in the 4th quarter. I thought that this was one of the most complete games of the Gus era.

From 2009-2020, the only other perfect score on offense and defense in SEC play, came against Arkansas in 2016, when Auburn defeated the Hogs, 56-3. 1
