The SEC’s coaches displayed an expectation that Auburn’s defense will continue playing at a high level because they named two players, defensive lineman Big Kat Bryant and linebacker K.J. Britt, to the Preseason Coaches All-SEC team.

Britt was previously named to an All-SEC team at the end of last season after making 61 tackles, including nine for loss and 2.5 sacks. Throughout the preseason, Britt has been named to more watchlists than any other Auburn player. He is considered a candidate for the Bednarik Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top defensive player; the Butkus Award, which goes to the nation’s top linebacker; the Nagurski Trophy, which is awarded to college football’s best defensive player; and the Lott IMPACT Trophy, which goes to the nation’s best defensive player in both character and performance.

Auburn’s defensive line produced two All-Americans last season in Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson, and Bryant is their successor. Davidson spoke highly of Bryant and his ability to carry on the legacy of the Auburn defensive line. In addition to making the preseason All-SEC team, he is also on the Nagurski Trophy watchlist.
