Before the coronavirus pandemic altered the landscape of college athletics, forcing athletics departments to come to grips with uncertain finances moving forward, Auburn was coming off a fiscal year in which is recorded record revenue and nearly $13.2 million in profit.

The annual USA Today survey of collegiate athletics finances was published on Thursday morning, showing that Auburn wasn’t the only major program to continue to flourish from a financial standpoint before COVID-19 began to impact programs nationwide. Though Auburn recorded a record revenue of more than $152.4 million during the 2018-19 fiscal year, it didn’t quite crack the top-10 nationally in that regard, with the Tigers ranking 13th among the 227 programs whose finances were obtained in the report.

That record revenue for Auburn was also sixth among SEC teams, behind Texas A&M ($212,748,002; second nationally), Georgia ($174,042,482; fifth nationally), Alabama ($164,090,889; seventh nationally), Florida ($159,706,937; ninth nationally) and LSU ($157,787,782; 10th nationally).

Texas recorded the highest revenue total for the 2018-19 fiscal year, raking in $223,879,781 and posting more than $19.6 million in profit last year. The Longhorns were one of two Big 12 teams among the top-10 in revenue, with Oklahoma checking in at No. 8 ($163,126,695). With the SEC taking up half of the top-10 spots in that category, the Big Ten accounted for the remaining three: Ohio State ($210,548,239; third), Michigan ($197,820,410; fourth) and Penn State ($164,529,326; sixth).
