On Wednesday the NCAA Division I Council approved the preseason schedule for 2020, opening the door for college football teams to begin a six-week practice plan that culminates with an on-time Sept. 5 start for the Auburn Tigers.

From now until July 12 the players on campuses can have voluntary workouts only that are initiated by the players. On July 13, players can begin eight hours of athletic related activities a week. That includes weight training and conditioning along with video sessions.

That will continue until July 24 when the schedule moves to 20 hours per week of athletic activities that includes eight hours of strength and conditioning and six hours each of walk-throughs and team meetings. This will be the first time a football will be allowed for team activities with coaches present.

That schedule will run until Aug. 7 when fall practices will begin. Teams can have a maximum of 25 on-field workouts heading into the 2020 season.
