Auburn Dean adds 1 second to all final exams following Tigers’ latest Iron Bowl win

Keith Farner | 3 hours ago

The aftermath of the Iron Bowl victory across the Auburn campus has spilled over to final exams. Joe Aistrup, the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, issued a statement to tweak the final exam schedule after the Tigers’ 48-45 win over Alabama.

Airstrup is sure to be one of the most popular deans on The Plains after his statement read, “It is undeniable that when every second counts, Auburn men and women make great things happen. Under Coach Malzahn’s leadership student-athletes have twice proven the difference that :01 can make. In the spirit of continued success, I hereby authorize professors and instructors to add one second to the allotted times for next week’s final exams.”

His statement is obviously a reference to the one second being added to the clock at the end of the first half of Saturday’s game, which Auburn used to kick a field goal. One second was also important in 2013 to setup Chris Davis’ famous “Kick Six” touchdown return of an Alabama missed field goal.

Aistrup was appointed Dean of the College of Liberal Arts in 2013. He came to Auburn from Kansas State University where he was associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He began his tenure at Kansas State in 2002 as associate professor and head of the department of political science. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State in 1982, a master’s from Virginia Tech in 1984 and PhD from Indiana University in 1989.

This is great; love the spirit.

I recall sitting in the pew on Sunday morning after the 1984 game vs FSU (42-41 victory) and the preacher said, "I had a short, sweet sermon all planned.  However, in light of last night's big win, I thought it would be appropriate to have  forty-two points this morning!"

I hope someone  reminds saving of the 2017 game when he wanted the ref to put one second back on the clock so their field goal kicker to try a winning field goal. But as we all know, that play didn't turn out little nicky's way either. Their FG kicker missed and Chris Davis ran it 109 yards for KICK SIX and Auburn won 34-28.

Kick Six was November 30, 2013.
