Marlon Davidson (3) gets a sack in the first half. Auburn Football vs Samford on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019 in Auburn, Ala. Todd Van Emst/AU Athletics

Marlon Davidson moved ahead of Derrick Brown in the competition for the most SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week awards when he won the honor after Auburn’s 52-0 win over Samford.

This is the fourth time Davidson has won the award in 2019. Brown has won it three times. Together, Auburn claims seven of the 13 awards.

Davidson did not play much against Samford. The Tigers quickly grabbed the lead, and they took out the starters to allow other players to gain game experience. But in just 23 snaps, Davidson was able to show his dominance. He had four tackles — which tied for the most on the team — one sack for a loss of seven yards and 2.5 tackles for loss.

The win was Auburn’s first shutout since its 53-0 win over Liberty in 2018, and it was the defense’s most dominant performance. It held Samford to 114 total yards, the fewest since Georgia Southern gained 78 against Auburn in 2017.

Davidson is now tied with Brown for the fourth-most tackles (43) this season. He leads the team in both tackles for loss (12.5) and sacks (7.5). Brown has one more week in the regular season to match Davidson’s four honors.
