5 things to know about Georgia, Auburn’s next opponent

4-5 minutes

Georgia will arrive in Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday for the 124th game between the two teams.

With 34 players from Georgia and a deep-seated rivalry, the Auburn program is very familiar with the Bulldogs. There’s a lot of crossover and history between the two teams.

If you’re looking to become even more familiar with the Bulldogs, here are five facts you may or may not already know about Auburn’s oldest rival.

1. Home field advantage?

The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry is a close series with Georgia barely edging out Auburn in the 123 games they’ve played. Georgia leads 59-56-8. But in a trend that contradicts normal patterns, the road team has a better record in each stadium. When Georgia is at Auburn, it leads 16-12-2. When Auburn heads to Athens, it has the advantage. It is 18-15. However, in the last two games, the home teams have won. Georgia beat Auburn 27-10 at home in 2018, and Auburn took down No. 2 Georgia in 2017 as the home underdog.

2. Shutting it down

Georgia is coming off of a 27-0 shutout of Missouri. It was the Bulldog’s third shutout of the season. They’ve also shut out Arkansas State 55-0 and Kentucky 21-0. It’s the first time Georgia has had three shutouts in one season since 1981. The most they’ve had in a 12-game season is four. Georgia has accomplished that twice, in 1971 and 9176. Georgia has Auburn, Texas A&M and Georgia Tech left on its schedule. None of those schools have been shut out this season, although Georgia Tech scored just two points against Temple.

3. Georgia’s offensive line is an absolute unit.

Georgia’s 2019 starting squad is the largest offensive line unit in Bulldogs history. The average height of the starters is 6-feet-5, and the average weight is 328.6 pounds. Auburn’s line appears rather slender in comparison. Its average height is 6-feet-4, and its average weight is 307.2 pounds. The collective weight of Georgia’s line is 1,643 pounds and Auburn’s line is 1,536 pounds. The Georgia offensive line also outweighs the Auburn defensive line by an average of 40 pounds.

4. Their kicker has more SEC awards than Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson.

Auburn’s Marlon Davidson and Derrick Brown are dominating the SEC weekly awards, taking home six out of the 12, but Georgia’s kicker has had an even more dominant season. Rodrigo Blankenship has won the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honor four times this season. He took home the awards after Georgia played Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Missouri. He’s tallied 89 points, including 9.9 points per game, which leads the SEC. He’s 19-22 for field goals and 32-32 for extra point kicks. His season has placed him on the 2019 Midseason All-American team.

5. Jake Fromm, Man of the Year (semi finalist)

On November 13, the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year semifinalists were announced. Jake Fromm, along with Auburn’s Derrick Brown, was among four SEC players on the list of 20. He is one of just three juniors to be named. The award goes to the college football player who shows his leadership through exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship on and off the field. Fromm has started a FBS-best 37 games. He also is on the SEC honor roll and works with a number of charities including Extra Special People, which works with people with disabilities. The winner of the award will have $10,000 donation submitted to his school’s athletic scholarship fund. Three finalists will be announced on December 16.

Well the talent level is tilted toward UGA this time.   This is probably the first time this year we have been out-manned  (LSU maybe -  definitely at QB).

Let's see if our $7 million dollar man can outcoach Kirby.   We have Jordan Hare - hope that is enough.

I will declare Gus is the "X" Factor this game.  His ability to adjust after the 2nd drive is critical or just before 2nd quarter.   Then again in the 3rd.   I feel he is lost after the script runs out.

Sure would be nice if the refs would call some offensive holding calls when they occur.
