Auburn Gameday: Complete Fan Guide for Auburn vs. Ole Miss

By Jeremy Henderson

JORDAN-HARE STADIUM, Auburn, Ala.

KICKOFF: 6 p.m. (CT)

TV: ESPN

Can the Tigers bounce back from their near-win experience in Baton Rouge? Will the officials finally call holding? Will the ghost of Gatewood haunt the rest of the season? We won’t know until tomorrow. But here are some things we know today.

MILITARY APPRECIATION WEEK

It's that time of the season again. Of course, Saturdays on the Plains are always served with a healthy dose of patriotism, and we've already had a flyover once this year...

... but the military-minded pregame pageantry will be cranked up a notch vs. Ole Miss.

Here’s the lowdown from the Auburn Athletics Department:

· Auburn ROTC Cadets and Midshipmen and student veterans will lead the Auburn football team through Tiger Walk at approximately 4 p.m.

· The Athletics Department and the Auburn Alumni Association will distribute Auburn University-themed commemorative Military Appreciation Day coins for active and retired military personnel with military ID. Coins will be available at Friday’s reception and Saturday’s hospitality tailgate at the Alumni Center as well as Coca-Cola Fan Fest, while supplies last.

· Auburn has partnered with the Dixie Division Military Vehicle Club to bring in historic military display vehicles. The displays will be presented at multiple locations on campus including the Nichols Center and Donahue Drive, which will feature a large American flag fire truck ladder display.

· U.S., Military branch and POW flags will fly around Jordan-Hare Stadium.

· The pregame flyover will be performed by a local F-35 Lightning II aircraft unit.

· The Auburn University Marching Band will perform a special halftime salute to our military. In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of D-Day, veterans (or close family members of veterans) from each service branch who served in WWII will be recognized.

· Auburn University will unveil a POW/MIA chair to remind those who never made it home that they will always have a seat saved for them in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

· Multiple recognitions honoring Auburn University veterans and ROTC cadets will occur throughout the game as well as video board messages from members of the Auburn Football team to friends and family who are currently serving overseas or have served.

WEATHER

Dry. Cold. Temperature-wise, this is pretty much Auburn’s first home of the fall. Only it might feel closer to winter. Saturday’s high may reach the 60s, but by game’s end it will likely be in the 30s. There’s no shame in layering.

PAT vs. ARCHIE

Pat Sullivan and Archie Manning

This year is the 20th anniversary of the pine box brouhaha. Outside of that cute controversy, the lore of the Auburn vs. Ole Miss series is a little lackluster, save the one, brief headline-making moment when both teams boasted the two best quarterbacks in the country. And -- who knew? -- they were actually pen pals!

But if you're looking to kill 25 minutes, the 1993 Ole Miss edition of the Auburn Football Review is fun to watch. It was the debut of the Bowden era. And yep, that's Papa Bowden in the Auburn locker room.

NEW PARKING APP

I know, I know—it started in Tuscaloosa. But still, if you’re looking to reduce your Saturday stress, Clutch! might be worth checking out. The digital pre-reserved parking option billing itself as the “airbnb of parking.”

Here's the current list of Clutch! lots offering parking this Saturday:

West Glenn Corner Lot - 0.5 mi., 10 min walk

Auburn UMC Gay St Lot - 0.62 mi, 14 min walk

Premium House Parking - 364 South Gay - 0.68 mi., 13 min walk

West Glenn Ave Lot - 0.7 mi, 15 min walk

Newk's Park & Ride Golf Cart Shuttle - 0.73 mi - 14 min walk

Sprayberry Law Firm Lot - 0.92 mi, 18 min walk

Fontaine Lot - 1.28 mi, 26 min walk

And hey, the pitch man is that guy from SEC Shorts!

NEW SHUTTLE SERVICE

The university has this year teamed up with Slidr to offer a football game day five-passenger shuttle service throughout the areas adjacent to Jordan-Hare. Fare is $3 per person, but it might be worth it.

You can zip from outside the stadium security barricade boundaries to any location inside that perimeter, including up to the stadium. The service pickup area outside the perimeter runs from the corner of Glenn Avenue and Gay Street west to Byrd Street and south to Woodfield Drive.

Service starts three hours before kickoff and stops at the end of the first quarter, only to resume for a few hours at the start of the fourth.

FRIDAY

Fridays are almost as fun as Saturdays. Ever wanted to take free tour of the Auburn locker room? Go for it. Just stop by Gate 10 between 4-6 p.m.

If you have kids, and even if you don’t, you’ll hate yourself for not experiencing Football, Fans and Feathers at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Southeastern Raptor Center at least once. It’s become a favorite Friday fan-tivity in recent years. And you don’t just get to peep the eagles— $5 gets you photo ops with eagles, hawks, owls, falcons and any other birds of prey Auburn’s wing-healing beast masters have on hand. And you get to see them fly around. It’s cool. It’s educational. The hour-long show starts at 4 p.m. at the center’s the 350-seat Edgar B. Carter Educational Amphitheater at 1350 Pratt-Carden Drive off Shug Jordan Parkway.

Don’t forget the weekly Come Home to The Corner event come evening. Fun starts at 6 p.m., ends at 9 p.m., and is classified as an Entertainment District event, which means you can walk around with a beer in your hand without going to jail.

If you haven't been to Auburn's amazing new Gogue Performing Arts Center, a Friday night with the Allman Betts Band might be a good excuse to change that.

The sons of Greg Allman and Dickey Betts have combined their talents to form the Allman Betts Band. For their new world tour, the band will play songs from their solo projects as well as classic Allman Brothers tunes in honor of the Southern Rock supergroup’s 50th anniversary.

Show starts at 7:30. Ticket information here.

Oh, and Auburn's seemingly unbeatable equestrian team will likely add another notch to their western belts at 3 p.m. when they host Ole Miss for Hometown Heroes Day. Those ladies don't mess around.
