This situation reminds me of when someone goes to trade their old car that is giving them trouble, constantly letting them down of the road (pun intended). When they get to the dealership and find that dream car they have always wanted, they learn they owe too much on the dilapidated old one and they cannot  make the deal.

Our old bus needs to be traded in and we simply cannot afford to do it right now.
