Derrick Brown is a semifinalist for two of college football’s major individual awards.

The Auburn senior defensive tackle on Tuesday was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell and Bednarik awards, which are given annually to the nation’s best all-around player and to the nation’s top defensive player, respectively.

Brown is one of 20 players to make the cut for the Maxwell Award, which also includes semifinalists such as Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts and Ohio State defensive end Chase Young. Brown and Young are the only two defensive players among the 20 Maxwell Award semifinalists.

Brown is also one of 20 semifinalists for the Bednarik Award. Brown this season has totaled 30 tackles, with seven for a loss and four sacks. He has also broken up three passes, added a quarterback hurry, forced two fumbles and returned two fumbles. Brown has also been named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week twice this season.

Voting for finalists begins Wednesday and runs through Nov. 24. Three finalists for each award will be announced Nov. 25, and a winner will be declared Dec. 12 during the ESPN Home Debut College Football Awards show.
