Auburn Gameday: Complete fan guide for Auburn vs. Mississippi State

Updated 8:28 AM; Today 5:55 AM

JORDAN-HARE STADIUM, Auburn, Alabama

KICKOFF: 6 p.m. (CT)

GATES OPEN: 4 p.m. (CT)

TV: ESPN

Here's everything you'll need to know if you're making the trip for the 93rd meeting between Mississippi State and your No. 7 Auburn Tigers.

SEC NATION

Tim Tebow, Paul Finebaum and the rest of the “SEC Nation” crew will be back in town for the Tigers’ first home conference game, broadcasting live from Auburn’s Wellness Kitchen Green Space starting at 9 a.m. There will prizes, giveaway, all that stuff. It ain’t College GameDay, but it’s close.

ALL ORANGE

Most Auburn fans cringe at the memory of the orange jerseys. But by golly, no one has any problem mixing red and yellow when it comes to gameday T-shirts. Yep, the football fashion police are once again invoking the spirit of Tommy Tuberville's All Auburn, All Orange movement Saturday, encouraging fans to temporarily eschew their blue so as to present a bright, united front against the maroon marauders.

PETRIE HALL POP-UP SHOP

If you forget (at your peril) your orange shirt from home, be sure to grab one from the pop-up shop branch of Auburn's Official Team Shop of the Auburn Tigers. Check out the lobby of historical Petrie Hall Friday afternoon from 3-5 p.m. or Saturday between 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and bask in the bounty of Auburn's vintage College Vault logos (and a new line featuring Phil Neel's original Aubie), plus a rotating showcase of notable historic items from the Auburn football archives.

HISTORY

Speaking of historic items, most folks don't usually imagine Auburn vs. Mississippi State as some classic rivalry with drama to spare. But it kind of is. Check it out.

FREE PARKING

You can part for free on campus starting at 4 p.m. Friday at the following lots:

  • Facilities Pond
  • Facilities Lot
  • Intramural Fields Lot
  • Hayfields
  • Community Gardens
  • Lem Morrison Fields
  • Research Park
  • Along Wire Road
  • Research park
  • Mell Street Corridor

NEW PARKING APP

I know, I know—it started in Tuscaloosa. But still, if you’re looking to reduce your Saturday stress, Clutch! might be worth checking out. The digital pre-reserved parking option billing itself as the “airbnb of parking.”

Here's the current list of Clutch! lots offering parking this Saturday:

  • West Glenn Corner Lot - 0.5 mi., 10 min walk
  • Auburn UMC Gay St Lot - 0.62 mi, 14 min walk
  • Premium House Parking - 364 South Gay - 0.68 mi., 13 min walk
  • West Glenn Ave Lot - 0.7 mi, 15 min walk
  • Newk's Park & Ride Golf Cart Shuttle - 0.73 mi - 14 min walk

TRAFFIC

If you want the most up-to-date directions related to road closures and such, you may want to download Waze, what with the university partnering with them specifically for gamedays. You can download the app here.

NEW SHUTTLE SERVICE

The university has this year teamed up with Slidr to offer a football game day five-passenger shuttle service throughout the areas adjacent to Jordan-Hare. Fare is $3 per person, but it might be worth it.

You can zip from outside the stadium security barricade boundaries to any location inside that perimeter, including up to the stadium. The service pickup area outside the perimeter runs from the corner of Glenn Avenue and Gay Street west to Byrd Street and south to Woodfield Drive.

Service starts three hours before kickoff and stops at the end of the first quarter, only to resume for a few hours at the start of the fourth.

FRIDAY

Friday's are almost as fun as Saturdays. Ever wanted to take free tour of the Auburn locker room? Go for it. Just stop by Gate 10 between 4-6 p.m.

Looking for a little Friday food, football and fellowship? Grab some tickets to the Friday Football Luncheon. It starts at 11 a.m. at the fancy new Tiger Walk Club on S. Donahue. It’s kind of become a home game tradition of sorts in recent years. There’s a new football coach each week. You can park at the arena.

Want to listen to the last Paul Finebaum Show of the week in person? Well, you can. Paul will broadcast Friday’s show live from the SEC Nation set on the Wellness Kitchen Green Space starting at 2 p.m.

If you have kids, and even if you don’t, you’ll hate yourself for not experiencing Football, Fans and Feathers at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Southeastern Raptor Center at least once. It’s become a favorite Friday fan-tivity in recent years. And you don’t just get to peep the eagles—$5 gets you photo ops with eagles, hawks, owls, falcons and any other birds of prey Auburn’s wing-healing beast masters have on hand. And you get to see them fly around. It’s cool. It’s educational. The hour-long show starts at 4 p.m. at the center’s the 350-seat Edgar B. Carter Educational Amphitheater at 1350 Pratt-Carden Drive off Shug Jordan Parkway.

Don’t forget the weekly Come Home to The Corner event come evening. Fun starts at 6 p.m., ends at 9 p.m., and is classified as an Entertainment District event, which means you can walk around with a beer in your hand without going to jail.

SATURDAY

The Tiger Fan Fest presented by Coca-Cola is a must. The free-of-charge festivities are in the front of the Nichols Center on Donahue Drive. Sponsor displays, inflatables for the kids, and games, and free stuff galore. It’ll get going four hours before kickoff.

Bringing a Sharpie with you? Then stop by the Verizon Autograph Tent at the green space at 4 p.m. This week you can get the Hancock from Justin Garrett, Kamryn Pettway, Gerald Robinson, Freddie Smith, Josh Holsey and Tre Williams.

The often imitated, never duplicated Tiger Walk starts at the Athletic Complex on S. Donahue Drive will start, as always, two hours before kickoff. If you want a good shot of Bo or Boobie, you’ll want to find a spot early.

Good luck getting anything but a blur out of Anthony Schwartz.

Here's how things looked at the Kent State game.

PATRIOTISM

Will there be a flyover this week? Hey, you never know. Regardless, it's still nice being in your seat before the National Anthem. Watching 87,451 hands over hearts belt out the stars and stripes song gets me every time.

Wait, what am I saying—there’s always a flyover, be it fuselage or feathers. Best be ready to ‘please turn your attention...’ to Aurea by 5:40.

BAGS

No backpacks or duffel bags or big purses or anything. Jordan-Hare, like most SEC stadiums these days, only allows clear bags to make it through the gates. Nothing but see-through totes and gallon-sized freezer bags. You can take a clutch with you as long as it’s no larger than 4.5″ by 6.5″. You can find more information here.

METAL DETECTORS

The SEC had a 2020 deadline for getting them in. Auburn beat it by a year.

Walk-through metal detectors are currently being readied for deployment outside each and every gate at Jordan-Hare.

From AuburnTigers.com:

When fans arrive at the gates of Jordan-Hare Stadium, they will be asked to follow the instructions of the security screening staff and place large metal objects such as phones, keys, cameras, and approved seat cushions in containers or in their clear bag on screening tables before passing through the walk-through metal detectors. Fans will not be required to remove belts, watches, wallets, jewelry, shoes, jackets, coins or other small objects.

Fans are encouraged to arrive at Jordan-Hare Stadium gates approximately 30 minutes earlier than normal to ensure a smooth entry.

The SEC clear bag policy will continue to be in effect at Jordan-Hare Stadium. To expedite the screening process, fans are urged to use their approved clear bag to carry permitted items into the stadium rather than placing them in the screening table containers.

Best leave those pocket knives at home this season.
