Derrick Brown earns SEC honors in week 4

Derrick Brown was a “disruptive force” in Auburn’s 28-20 win over Texas A&m, and the SEC awarded his efforts by naming him the defensive lineman of the week.

In his return performance after leaving the Kent State game with an upper body contusion, Brown totaled four tackles with two sacks, three tackles for loss, two pass breakups and one forced fumble.

It was both a record-setting and a career-high day for Brown.

He became the first Auburn player since 2016 to record at least two sacks, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble in one game and the first Auburn player since 2012 to record a sack, tackle for loss, forced fumble and pass breakup in one game.

Brown had a career-high in three areas, as well: tackles for loss, sacks and pass breakups.

One of his pass breakups was almost an interception. It just grazed his fingertips, Brown said. If he had caught it, there was a chance it could have been a pick-six.

Led by Brown’s performance, the Tigers’ defensive line held the Aggies to just 56 rushing yards with an average of 2.7 yards per rush. That is the fewest yards per rush by an SEC opponent since Georgia played them in 2017.

Have we won a SEC player of the week four straight weeks ? I’m thinking that’s right. Marlon the two before Brown, but can’t remember the first one.

Bo and Dinson!
