Auburn junior Noah Igbinoghene landed on the preseason watch list for the Paul Hornung Award, the Louisville Sports Commission announced Thursday.

Igbinoghene, Auburn’s top cornerback and kick returner, is one of 44 players from across the country named to the watch list for the award, which is given each year to the nation’s most versatile player. Igbinoghene joins four other SEC players on the watch list, including Kentucky’s Lynn Bowden Jr., LSU’s Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Florida’s Kadarius Toney and South Carolina’s AJ Turner.

Last year’s winner, Purdue receiver/return specialist Rondale Moore, is also on the watch list.

Igbinoghene is coming off a sophomore campaign that saw him switch from wide receiver to cornerback in the offseason. In his first year on defense, Igbinoghene led the Tigers with 11 pass breakups and had one interception while totaling 50 tackles, including 1.5 for a loss, and a forced fumble. He also averaged 28.27 yards per kick return.

Players can be added to the watch list during the season based on performance. Three finalists for the award will be announced Nov. 14, and a winner will be announced Dec. 1.

If Iggy's continued to develop like I expect him to he could go a long way in improving an already good defense.  He's on my list for breakout players this season.
