Johnson was hired to coach quarterbacks at his alma mater, Montgomery Carver High in Montgomery, Alabama, it was announced Wednesday.

“Truly honored to have one of the best athletes in school history on our staff, “ Carver coach Willie Spears said in a statement.

Johnson landed a mini-camp invite from the New York Giants in May 2017 but did not make a roster. He attempted to start a professional basketball career and received interest overseas but did not receive an enticing offer.

Johnson was a highly-recruited quarterback out of high school in 2013 and played immediately as a freshman behind starter Nick Marshall. He started the season opener against Arkansas as a sophomore, throwing for more than 200 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. HIs performance, along with his spot duty in other games, led to an All-SEC honor before his first season as starter but he struggled to hold on to the starting job in 2015 and 2016. He was demoted after a lackluster three games to start the 2015 season.

He threw for 2,223 yards and 20 touchdowns with 11 interceptions in his four-year career with the Tigers. He passed for a career-best 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns with seven interceptions in 2015 before Sean White took over as the full-time starter.

Man, great for Jeremy. Does this mean he will be teaching, too? Either way, one of the most important roles in a young person's life.

I, too, hope he is teaching.  The best way to know your subject is to teach your subject.

I hope he is doing something to get paid.

So glad to know that he is beginning his coaching career. He did his best at Auburn and was a credit to the school and the program. I hope he can, step by step, move up the coaching ladder.
