Auburn coach Gus Malzahn was recognized by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Tuesday when the groups named him the Bobby Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week.

Malzahn was honored following his team's thorough dismantling of previously unbeaten and then-No. 1 Georgia on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn, which was 1-7 against top-10 teams since 2014, handed the Bulldogs a 40-17 loss.

"Coach Malzahn and the Tigers made a statement to the entire country by coming out and pulling off a dominant victory over the No. 1 team in the land," Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation chairman Jim Terry said in a release. "Auburn now looks to be a serious contender for another SEC West title going into a massive Iron Bowl matchup in a couple of weeks."

Auburn's win shook up the national polls, vaulting the Tigers from 10th to sixth in the latest AP poll, just ahead of No. 7 Georgia, with the latest College Football Playoff rankings due out Tuesday evening.

Auburn dominated Georgia on both sides of the ball, shutting down the Bulldogs' offense after a game-opening touchdown drive while bottling up running back tandem Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, and pressuring freshman quarterback Jake Fromm throughout the game.

The win was Auburn's third in a row and set up a high-stakes Iron Bowl against top-ranked Alabama on Nov. 25 with the SEC West title on the line.

"A win of this magnitude shows that Coach Malzahn knows how to make his players winners on the field," Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Chairman Percy Vaughn said in a release.  "But you can see from his player's success in the classroom that he's also preparing them for life beyond football, which was one of Coach Dodd's core beliefs."
