Auburn receiver still on track to return after spring break

Auburn's receiving corps will be closer to full strength when the team reconvenes after spring break.

Rising sophomore Kyle Davis is still on track to return to the team when Auburn next practices on March 21, according to head coach Gus Malzahn. That has been the expectation for Davis since the Tigers opened spring practice on Feb. 28 and Malzahn said the receiver was handling "personal business."

"Yeah, we do," Malzahn said when asked if he expects Davis to be with the team on March 21.

Davis appeared in all 13 games last season, including one start against Alabama A&M late in the year. He finished his freshman campaign with 12 receptions for 248 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The 6-foot-2, 213-pounder was third on the team in receiving yards behind Tony Stevens and Darius Slayton, tied for second in touchdowns and led all receivers in yards per catch (20.67) while establishing himself as a threat in the vertical passing game.

The absence of Davis, paired with that of Slayton -- who has been recovering from hernia surgery -- Auburn has been thin at receiver through the first two weeks of spring. The Tigers currently have three walk-ons on the two-deep at receiver: Will Hastings, James Owens Moss and Griffin King.
