How about Frank Thomas. He didn't make in football but he sure was a heck of a baseball player.

Horace Peter Putfark was able to tackle 2 opponents during the same play. As he grew, he gained the ability to run down ball carriers ahead of him some 30 yards. He got his forty speed down to 4,05. He once tackled a bammer ball carrier and threw him in the dumpster like old "Big Mike" in the movie "The Blind Side."  Back in the day, he tackled Archie Manning 15 times in 1 game! He caused 3 fumbles during a game with Ole Piss and ran them back for TDs.

Leave the state of Alabama, take a poll and see how many people know Junior Rosegreen. If it wasn't for Reggie Brown hardly anyone would care about Junior Rosegreen beside the AU faithful.

HEY! Didn't he have like four picks against UT in 2004? I'm sure Erik Ainge and Brent Schaeffer remember him vividly ;D

Sidenote, Junior Rosegreen deserves much, much more love for what he brought to the 2004 team. Also 4 picks in one game is IN-SANE. His performance gets lost in the shuffle of our overall team performance that game. What a night!

Well sure, leave the state and most any player not named Bo Jackson or Cam Newton will be not very well known. I thought it was pretty evident this is obscure by AU fan base standards but whatever.

Junior Rosegreen was on two All-American teams though for what it's worth. He did more than make a big hit to make those but if you think he's obscure then you have every right to.

My last one but I had to wait and give him his own post. My good friend Zach Gilbert. Walk on, eventually got playing time, is a financial consultant now. Best work ethic EVER. Incredible story. Great guy. One of Jay Jacobs favorites. Took his opportunity and squeezed every amount of success he could out of it.

Not necessarily obscure, but Chip Powell came a long way from walking on to defensive team captain.

Alan Evans was a tremendous high school back down in Enterprise. He got banged up pretty good his senior year,  in a battle for the ages against Prattville, on Halloween night.

That Prattville defense was led by Chip Powell.

I was gonna bring up Chip. Walk on DB to leading the SEC in interceptions his senior year. Pretty darn good. And he set the table at PHS for those of us who came just after!

Reggie Slack (one of my favorite players ever at AU) and Dick Smaltz.

wde

Opening drive, '89 Iron Bowl, Slack to Wright, over the shoulder, for 44 yards... one of the greatest plays Jordan-Hare has ever seen.

Scott Bolton - Dye's reverse specialist. Was supposed to have been in on the 86 Tillman reverse - bammer. Why Lawyer was trying to call time out.

Excellent one, heck yeah!

Walt Mcfadden made two all-American teams as well. I am sure he had to actually be good in football to make those smart guy. He still isn't well known.

Thank you for letting me know my rights though.

I had a few. Loved the energy of Rusty Williams, not the best running back ever but very effective. Loved watching Marcellus Mostella play linebacker. Can't forget Larry Casher. Knew his family very well. Always a quiet guy but got the job done

That's actually my favorite AU game/play of all time.

Had grandparents and cousins at our home for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and that game just topped it off.  Ah....boyhood memories...

But McFadden isn't obscure, per the point of the thread smart guy.

Errick Lowe- super smooth mid 90's receiver. Didn't lift his feet when he ran. Just gently glided across the turf.

To follow your post about the 1986 Alabama game, how about a couple of plays before the reverse? Another obscure player, Trey Gainous, caught a 4th down pass and kept it from hitting the turf. If he doesn't catch the pass, Auburn loses and the Tillman reverse never happens.

Interesting notes about Collins. With several Auburn players transferring from Auburn to Jacksonville St., I believe Kyle did the opposite and transferred from Jax St. to Auburn.

Rosegreen was so underrated...many of our defensive players from 2003-2004 were TBH. Those guys were the epitome of blue collar players. I miss that swagger. I feel like it is coming back with this defense.

BTW, Junior Rosegreen doesn't even have a Wikipedia page  smh

Strolling down memory lane (and showing my age).....Freddy Weygand. Dude was smooth and could really catch the ball, just didn't throw much under Dye. After we played FSU in '84 one of their dbs said "....that's a fast white guy....", lol
