It will be interesting IMO to see how aggressive coach Steele et al are first couple series against this Texas A&M offense. Prairie View A&M doesn't offer us much useful game prep film.

I was pretty bummed out by the Steele hire but I will say the D has looked great so far! I noticed in the Clemson game that the guy with the ball actually got knocked back a few times when our LBs hit him. I haven't seen that in several years! Like everyone else on here i'm interested to see how we do against A&M and LSU before I start going around talking up our D too much, but i'm very excited about the way we are trending so far on that side of the ball.

I will come out and say it. I was very underwhelmed by the hire. But I must say we have looked much better than I expected on defense to start off this year. Very small sample size though, and I don't think anyone will argue that. I think we get a very good glimpse of what to expect this coming week. Steele has a lot of talent on his unit and he does not have to try to change the culture but to continue enforcing it -- which it seems like he's doing a great job of. He has been pretty average everywhere he's been but he's getting the job done so far.

Tackling is MUCH improved (knock on wood)

Guys seem to be flying to the ball better than the past few years (last year was a work in progress, but they started to show this trait a bit more than years past)

We have some hitters

I LOVE seeing that he's willing to bring pressure from all directions, and often. Seems our past DC's were so worried about giving up the big play (even though plays designed for shorter gains would balloon into big ones because of awful tackling) that they would try to keep as many d-backs in coverage for as long as possible while the front 4 danced with the OL while the QB dropped back, made a sandwich, did his homework, and then found an open receiver. It burned us on Clemson's last TD, which will happen but overall it's making a big difference IMO

I will be the evil Steele hater.  Steele is a good coach but not great.  At Clemson his defense would show up 10 games out of 12.  it was those 2 or 3 games that got him fired.  That being said, there is no reason he hasn't figured out how to eliminate the  couple games with bad performances.  But enough hating, this is Steele the best Auburn Defense I have seen since Tubs.

Get it?  I spelled still "Steele" because they both sound the same but one is Kevin Steele's last name. It sounds the same but when you read it again you realize that I didn't mean Kevin Steele, I just meant the word still.  I'm on a roll today.

They're all waiting to see what happens next Saturday.

I'm not a Steele hater, but Im in this camp. We saw this good of D in the bowl game so I'm not giving him all the credit yet. I was not sold that he was a great hire and was reserving judgement.  I think he has done good so far. aTm will tell a lot.
