From SI today: "EXCLUSIVE: Laremy Tunsil's stepfather alleges Ole Miss committed numerous violations while his stepson played there"

The stepdad: "Ole Miss had an intricate system in which the school arranged for Tunsil and his family through boosters to get loans, money and free lodging at hotels and residences around Oxford, Miss. He claims he told the NCAA of benefits that spanned nearly three years."

Yeah, I think this was all addressed in Laremys suspension last season. His stepdad is a pos.

Whether or not Ole Miss committed the infractions, stepdad is a horrible person. Dude deserved the beat down Tunsil gave him.

While it's true his stepdad isn't right for throwing him under the bus, it also seems to be true that Ole Miss did these things and deserves to be hit hard iyam. We all knew Ole Miss was recruiting over their heads. Now we have the official as to the how and the why. They've made untold millions off their recent success due to cheating and deserve to be placed back below where they were before they did these things.

Yep. I'd make them clean house and lose 5 schols per year for 4 years. It's not a shock that they suddenly have a top 5 class and program overnight

Tunsil's stepdad gave up banking account records, multiple cell phones, emails, text messages, facebook access, etc. to the NCAA. The NCAA felt the need to interview the man for +100 hours, that's a lot of talking and gathering information. And it "appears" that at least one OM coach introduced stepdad to a booster who provided lodging & cash. And who at OM told Tunsil to go to Cannon Motors to get his free loaners for all those months? Then the text messages from Tunsil to the Assoc AD about getting rent and momma's power bills paid looks like proof that there was indeed a "system" in place.

Like I said, the stepdad may very well be POS, but that's kinda beside the point. When the OM coaches are blowing up social media and cell phones communicating like they did they left a blazing trail that provided the NCAA with fire power.

Look, I'm happy Ole Miss might get hit hard. They've been turning into a threat in the West. But what the hell is the step dad's end game? He surely won't be seeing any of this NFL money now. Seems like if he was focused on that he wouldn't have started this whole circus.

But any good player considering Ole Miss should just come to AU. We have similar offensive systems :)

Our benefits are obviously not as good however.

I think his stepdad is using this OM thing for the feeling of fame and power - kind of like our governor, this is the last time he will be relevant and he is holding on for all it is worth. I am sure he knows he will not be getting $$$ from Tunsil.

As far as AU benefits vs OM benefits.....we are not even close! One of us should open a car dealership....

Ole Miss coaches and boosters need to take lessons from the masters of this kind of chicanery---the Red Elephant Club.

that is exactly who is teaching this lesson currently. Maybe.

They need to take lessons from someone, that's for dang sure. I mean the NCAA has solid evidence of electronic communications that even OM admitted were legit in their NOA response. There was obviously a coach directing a parent to a booster for lodging and cash payments, and the freaking Assoc AD directing a player to a coach to get rent & utility payments arranged. Who introduced the player to the car dealer for the loaner cars that went on for months on end? This is just the stuff that the regular public has seen about Laremy - there's no telling what mounds of cell phone records, text messages, etc. they have on file.

In the end, the NCAA can't ignore this stuff. OM's infractions envelope multiple sports, multiple coaches, at least one AD staffer with academic fraud mixed in this hot mess.

The problem is that no one knows what they have already ruled on. Laremy Tunsil was suspended for seven games last season. Much of this may have already been looked at and covered under that suspension. Some of it may not have been. No one knows right now.

Free cars, free lodging, paid for bills...That better be worth more than one player for 7 games. This is a clear cut case of lack of institutional control. This should have coaches fired, program on severe probation, reduction in scholarships for many years, etc. Tunsil wasn't the only one in the wrong here. If the 7 games is all there is, let's start paying everyone. It's officially worth the risk.

NCAA was on campus for nearly a year and found zilch. That is with turd connections in the committee. If there was something there, they would have found it. Add to this that we refuse to even negative recruit, and the logical conclusion is that we have a head coach that believes we should be above cheating or playing dirty. Does that guarantee that some booster somewhere hasn't done some rogue things? No. But I feel pretty confident our coaching staff is clean.

JMHO on this Ole Miss mess.....This is back to back coaching staffs and Athletic Directors that have been hit with major violations, Houston Nutt/Saunders/Vaughn in the academic fraud + Hugh Freeze/Chris Kiffin/Harris in the Tunsil violations + booster involvement + OM Women's basketball + OM Track team.

Someone...anyone please tell me if that is not Lack of Institutional Control spanning back to back Coaching & AD regimes then what the hell is LOIC?

Say it Keesler; bring the conviction! I have to think OM is in some pretty good trouble here.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ha, they had both barrels loaded and leveled at the U in the Nevin Shapiro case...promptly shot themselves in the foot twice.  I don't much believe they're really interested in hammering member institutions any more.  If Oregon didn't go to jail for flat out paying Willie Lyles to deliver Lache Seastrunk nobody will.  Mark Emmert has got that organization completely effed up.
