(confirmed) Carl Lawson - Knee Surgery

Was arthroscopic to clean up the meniscus. I think if he rehabs well he will be good to go by week 2-3 of season. Better now than later in the year.

Ive had both knees scoped from torn cartilage/meniscus. 6-8 weeks should be plenty for him to get back to work.

Now it's more apparent why #1 & #90 worked at DE this spring.

Could also explain why Gabe is slimming down

I sure hope Carl is ready by the first game. Hard to believe this wasn't diagnosed and corrected well before now.

I hate this for him but I hope he has a successful and speedy recovery. Until then, Owens, Daniels, Williams and Lambert, along with a few others, are going to have take care of business.

A lot of freakish athletes usually finish rehab ahead of schedule, I think CL will do just that.

True, I really wish both the Milton High boys shine this year...

He got a couple of opinions. They were hoping to do conservative measures first like limiting working the knee and NSAIDs. When that didn't work then they had to bite the bullet and do the surgery. Really not that uncommon. Glad it's jUST meniscus so better to get it fixed.

Russell Westbrook came back from his last meniscus surgery just as explosive as ever and in fairly short time. I hope Lawson is similar.

would it be fair to say that the damage was not anything structural or would limit performance but just causes pain? If i remember right you are a Dr.?

My wife is a doctor of physical therapy, aka rehab specialist. She has worked with players in the NFL and MLB. According to her it depends on what was actually done during the surgery. If it was a clean up as everyone has said here he can be weight bearing and begin rehab almost immediately. The time line suggests though that it is a meniscus repair. That entails no weight at all on his knee for 6-8 weeks. After that it is a 6 week or more rehab dependent on strength level going into the surgery. That means he will miss most of fall camp but may be able to participate in some walk throughs and no contact drills.

We have good depth on the DL at the moment....hope he is back soon but no point in rushing him onto the field before he is 100% IMO.

Not at DE.

Lambert qualifying has no become much more important. Andrew Williams will need to have a Lawson-like freshman campaign.

This sucks for Carl and for us.

Lawson is our best pass and run rusher. Will hurt if Carl Lawson has to miss several games.

Get well soon, Carl.

:wareagle:

I wasn't suggesting that we could not use him....be we have enough talent overall....and I bet Garner (with 4months advance notice) can figure out how to make it all happen. Too bad about the injury but would not be smart IMO to push him onto the field before he is 100%.

Lawson is a freakish athlete. I do not think either Andrew or Lambert have the same potential as Lawson. That being said, Lambert may be SEC ready and we have heard Andrew has been working hard (he was training with Lawson some).

Def agree, just saying it will help lessen the drop off. AW looks to be around 6'3" 250 right now with a high motor. Having both will be reprieve while CL recovers.

I think you are right and I sure hope so.

With Owens, Daniels, Lambert, Williams and Gabe sliding out there every once in awhile, we will be fine. More than likely the goal is to get Carl back by the LSU game and if he gets back sooner it's all gravy.

I think both Owens and Daniels are very good.

I hope you have speedy recovery Mr. Lawson but more importantly I hope they don't let you come back before you are absolutely physically ready!
