Nice. Is it only for student athletes?

As posted elsewhere 51% non student athletes....

Thanks for info. Glad non student athletes will get to the chance to experience the suites as well.

Non-athletes get to experience it for +/- $5,500 per semester. Granite counter tops, hardwood floors, flat screen TV, washer/dryer, bed & bath combo, full kitchen... Very nice and very expensive for the average college student. I started out in TheQuad housing/dorms and because I didn't know any better, I loved it back then. TheVillage housing is nice as well - but South Donahue is the beez kneez.

Wow... I bought a 2 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath condo at Lakewood Commons for less than that... granted that was too many years ago for me to be comfortable thinking about, but still...

South D is too pricey for what I'll be paying for my kid. College life is supposed to be rough - eat rahmen noodles & mac/cheese for dinner - share a bathroom - walk to do your laundry - tiny dorm rooms. At least for your freshman year anyway. That's what makes all the fun memories of college life,IMO.

I guess one question, one that might separate the men from the old men is

Is there any such thing as a dorm "room" anymore, or is everything suite-based?

I just toured The Quad housing with my daughter who is about to enter her senior year of HS. It's "dorm room" quality - old hardwood floors, share a bedrm with a room mate of your choice - there's an adjoining bathroom shared by two other room mates. Basically a 'jack 'n jill' plan, 1 bathroom share by four girls w/two girls per bedroom. Tiny rooms, no kitchen at all, bring your own dorm fridge/TV/microwave, laundry downstairs, one common room for the whole place. That's where my daughter will be residing her frosh year at AU. It's in the middle of EVERYTHING - very safe and accessible to classes - Haley Center, etc. It's gonna run +/-$2,900/semester for the 2014-2015 school year - with a $1,000/sem meal plan, that's not too bad IMO. She's gonna want to upgrade for her Soph yr,so we'll probably move her over to The Villiage with the sorority housing.

I agree for freshman year. I lived in the village for freshman year, but I'm a bit of a special case, as I was medically advised to live there as I am more prone to getting sick due to chemotherapy. And when I get sick, I don't just stay home from class, I go to the ER lol

Extremely nice. Very pricey. One thing I didn't notice, in the pic's and my eyes don't work well enough to see them on the floor plan, was a stove or oven.

There is not a stove or oven in the room (college kids would burn the place down before the first game, lol) but if it is anything like the Village, there is a full kitchen on the 1st floor that has a stove and oven. The kitchen has a sink, a full fridge, and a microwave. A lot of people bring toasters and George Foreman's with them. That's what my roommate did last year, cooked a pound of bacon every Thursday and watched the Office. Good times.

Grilled cheese sandwiches with the iron...oh, good times, haha

Ha Ha! Yea. Most new suties on college campus don't have stoves b/c like AUEngineer2016 said the students would burn the place down. lol. At some schools i know they even require the students be on a meal plan in order to be eligible to stay in the newer suites b/c they don't have stoves.

Moving my son into UCF in a couple of weeks. Their set up is also sweet. No hardwood floors or W&D but they do have 4 bedrooms 2 baths with a complete kitchen and common space plus cable & internet in the rooms. No meal plan required. Cost is a little less than at AU but have to have it for 2 semesters plus part of the summer. I lived in really crappy places when I went through AU. Some my mom wouldn't even step foot in. But since I was paying I tried to live cheaply...

Hopefully this helps us in recruiting, considering Bama's new weight room facility--which may be better than Oregon's.

"It's the 'Taj Mahal,' honestly," said senior defensive end Nosa Eguae, who still lives off campus. "It's the nicest dorm I've ever seen and I know it's going to be the nicest dorm in the country. The guys love it. It's going to build that family atmosphere since everyone is staying there. Even the guys that are off-campus, everybody is going to be over there. It's going to be a lot of fun."

Good times, when I started my SR year in HS we had an off week and did not have practice. A buddy and I were caught after curfew in a female dorm (girls from our HS) with a bunch of liquor. Can't remember which dorm, but I told the officer I would get kicked off the team at home if I got arrested. He made me

pour out the liquor call my parents and let us go. :timeout: They "escorted" us to I-85 and we drove back that night. (We had not even gotten started drinking.)

The officer told us we wouldn't have been able to enroll the next year if he reported us for being in the girls dorm after curfew. True or not he got his point across to us. I was far from an angel while at AU but I never messed around "On Campus" for sure!

Is the entire football team living in this dorm? I sure hope so. This would be the best thing in the world for the players in that they have a luxurious room to stay in and they can be kept away from some of the bad things that can happen living in an apartment.

Yes, everybody is there now except for a few Seniors who had the option.

I helped a few move in on Thursday morning and it was nice to see their attitudes and faces. Everyone is upbeat, hungry, and flat out fired up. We have a great group of guys on this team right now. It was a blessing to help out.
