•Perhaps 500 coaches were at practice for Auburn's annual two-day high school clinic. They jammed the sidelines and watched individual drills.

•The defense worked on interception returns and how the defense would lead the player with the ball down field. It was a refreshing concept, especially for a team that intercepted only two passes last year.

** For what it's worth, there was an interesting change on the offensive line. Alex Kozan, who started out practice at center, was in the lineup with the four returning starters at left guard. Jordan Diamond, who had been working there, was on the second unit, pushing Tunde Fariyike to right guard with Devonte Danzey at center.

** Jaylon Denson got some work on inside screens in the screen drill, joining Sammie Coates in taking the quick throws to the outside.

** Kiehl Frazier and Jonathan Wallace, as expected, continue to share snaps evenly.

  • Offensive line coach J.B. Grimes kept on (Jordan) Diamond during individual drills about keeping hips square on the sled. May or may not have anything to do with Diamond lining up on the second team this morning. At the least, it's clearly an area he needs to improve.
  • I saw Brandon Fulse split out in the slot during team drills. Not sure if I've seen that yet this spring.
  • Walk-on quarterback Ben Durand spends his team time playing scout safety against Auburn's offense.
  • Cody Parkey was money this morning. Can't remember seeing him miss in the seven or eight field goals he attempted. At one stretch, he made three straight from 40, 43 and 46 yards.

500 coaches and athletes - seems that the drug culture - crime ridden - cheating environment called Auburn didn't chase away the impressionable youth.

Great to see the report on practice.

Sorry I veered.

...

What does OC Rhett Lashlee think of players on other side of line? "Defensively, they've been right with us the whole way" with tempo.

@bmarcello

Lashlee says the QB's accuracy is still lacking, says they have to learn to think quicker and process information faster.

...

Attention to detail and mental toughness will be two points of emphasis for OC Rhett Lashlee during Saturday's scrimmage.

@JHokanson

Auburn O-coordinator Rhett Lashlee on QBs: "I don't see where we say 'this guy' is the starter. Right now, I don't see a lot of separation."

...

Lashlee on QBs: "Very inconsistent with accuracy. Neither one of them are processing information fast enough."

...

Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee says Jaylon Denson, C.J. Uzomah, Reese Dismukes are most consistent offensive players

@AUGoldMine

Lashlee says (Jaylon) Denson can work inside and outside. Sees his role increasing. Adds that he's definitely one of the best 11 right now

Ellis Johnson said he doesn't know anything about the ESPN reports. "People above my pay grade are handling that."

@wareagleextra

Johnson says Angelo Blackson has been a leader at DT, Gabe Wright and Jeff Whitaker right behind. That's the top 3.

@JHokanson

Sounds like DE Keymiya Harrell is out until the fall.

@JayGTate

(Angelo) Blackson out today.

@AUAuthority

Johnson on D line: "Our first unit is way ahead of our second unit. I don't think we've got 4 tackles, I don't think we've got 4 ends."

...

At DT, Johnson said he's looking at Blackson (when he returns), and Gabe Wright and Jeff Whitaker are a "toss up" at the other spot.

@AUBlog

Johnson says the defensive line has played the run good as well as the pass. Injury to Keymiya Harrell (knee) hurts depth at end

@ITATJason

Johnson very insistent on depth, says especially in the front seven, Tigers have to be deep.

My kids played against Jaylon in high school, he was just a go to guy, no one could stop him, he a great ability to attack the ball. I would be so happy to see him do great. Didn't like it in high school, but it was cool to watch.

You have to wonder how all this negativity from the press will effect the kids....AND IT WILL EFFECT THEM. Hopefully the coaches can keep them focused.

I love to see how coach Grimes and Garner are making the linemen get their techniques right in those drills.
