Why would be take a step back in the coaching world?

How is taking a position coach job at Auburn a step down from OC at Buffalo? We could probably, at least, double his salary and still have him as one of the lowest paid assistants on the staff -- a substantial raise usually = A Higher Tier Job

Pl us it would be a move into the premiere conference in football.

Though it is a step back in title.
