SAN FRANCISCO -- Forrest Blue, a four-time Pro Bowl center who helped the San Francisco 49ers win three straight division titles in the early 1970s, has died. He was 65.

The 49ers announced Tuesday that Blue died Saturday at an assisted living facility in Carmichael, Calif. No cause of death was given.

Blue was selected in the first round of the 1967 draft by the 49ers, 15th overall. He played on both the football and baseball teams at Auburn after going to high school in Marfa, Texas. He lettered all three years at Auburn during a time when freshmen were not eligible.

He didn't miss a game for the 49ers from 1969-74 and finished his career with four seasons with the Baltimore Colts.

Following his NFL career, Blue moved back to California, founding Forrest Blue Properties Inc., a development company in Penryn, Calif.

Sorry to hear this. I was a childhood friend of his wife, Anne Jacobs Blue. She was a cheerleader at Auburn at the time he played. I attended their wedding. I lost contact with them after they left Auburn. Do you know if they were still married? This saddens me to no end. Forrest was a great Auburn Man!

I'm probably one of a few on these boards who remember him.  He was a very good player and a good man.

Prayers for the family.

Forrest was one of the first Tiger O-Linemen in several with the size and all to play in the NFL. He was along the lines in talent of a Zke Smith or David Hill. He will be missed for sure. This reminds me of the passing of Connie Frederick not too long back; starting to lose some of the guys I think of as watching when I was a kid and forgetting I`m just 4-5 years younger. He will be missed.
