  1. Mikey, he's logged 1 yr of 3-7 vs major competition, followed by a coup attempt headed up by the Auburn PTB trying to kick him to the curb without paying the man his dang buyout. Any brand new coaching staff deserves 3 yrs at minimum to put their plan in place, work on recruiting, learn the talent regions, work roster management and solidify their staff as well as getting their off-the-field support staff in place. CBH is no different.
  2. It's BAD and has been for a while, I don't know what it'll take to make it better other than showing recruits we'll pay yuge NIL contracts to linemen once they get here. I mean like a few hundred grand a year type deals.
  3. Dang! That's a mean lookin 30 yr old going to Cal.
  4. He could be gun-shy after that UT/Pruitt mess? There's a negative stigma (for years) with Auburn's brand as it relates to attracting top olinemen and Friend will has an uphill battle to overcome that.
  5. All true and if I remember correctly you warned this board to "be careful what you wish for" when the annual fire Gus torches were lit. Auburn still had to make a change though. A team can't go year after year paying top 5 salaries and not getting top 5 recruiting classes or heck even top 10 ranked teams at the end of every year. Showing the occasional flash of excellence followed by years of inconsistency while also averaging 3-4 losses a year with an abysmal bowl record from a staff making that kind of $$ just won't cut it.
  6. Umm, excuse me.... tons of online classes are offered everywhere now. Who wants to get up and walk to class anymore anyway? Who needs in-person instruction or to wants to actually get to know their professors? lol
  7. We're unfortunately in wait 'n see mode again as fans. I'm frankly glad we aren't having to hear the annual promises of "we'll get this thing turned around, the future is bright.... yada yada yada" after another mediocre season. Now we just have to see if this crew can do better or if it's back on the coaching carousel for AU.
  8. Well, the fact that NS listened to Joey Freshwater and allowed him to change that offense and evolve it is a testament to the old geezer really. Many HC's are too stubborn to make a change.
  9. It wasn't brushed aside when he was hired. AU brought in Derrick Mason (DC), Mike Bobo (OC) + Will Friend on oline + retained Caddy on staff. ALL of those coaches have many years of recruiting for the SEC and have have tons of experience on SEC teams where top talent is vital. They all know the lay of the land and they've made inroads to the talent rich high schools across the region for years. Now Harsin slow playing recruiting for the first year while he evaluated the roster and the overall program didn't help recruiting and that crap in February gave the Auburn brand a black eye. But word has it that our NIL collective has plenty of $$ to pay athletes and we can offer them packages that are competitive with our main rivals and there's plenty of $$ for the incoming players.
  10. I'd take Kiffin in a heartbeat over almost any SEC HC other than KS/NS & maybe...... Brian Kelly (I'm undecided on him.) The SEC just doesn't have a plethora of elite HC's right now. Not like 10-12 yrs ago with Pinkle/Miles/Meyer/Spurrier/Petrino/Mullen/Nutt/Saban/Freeze/Richt/Chizik/Malzhan who all alternated with some dang strong teams, rotated around the SEC championships & some NC winners mixed in.
  11. The NCAA sat around and watched States pass NIL laws for years and Emmert chose to do nothing. Then they had to fight the courts to the end and lost and all of the sudden Emmert is pushed out the door and others (Greg Sankey + Pac12 Commish) have met with Legislators in DC to beg for help. Many member institutions want regulation (I'd imagine Auburn does as well) and they've decided to completely overhaul the NCAA rule book. The SCOTUS opened Pandora's box and now they're trying to reign it back in.
  12. This will never happen. Hell, it's post-covid and some colleges don't even require an ACT/SAT score for admissions. And in our current situation, we sure don't need to place academic obstacles in the way of our Auburn NIL's efforts to retain talent on our rosters.
  13. I don't think we know if CBH is stubborn as a mule right now or not. At least he's got a few options and a good QB competition.
  14. An athlete's eligibility wouldn't be jeopardized (the only leverage the NCAA has over a student-athlete) but they'd be mandated to tattle-tell on the NIL collective that pays them huge $$? Good luck NCAA. NCAA investigations move at a glacial pace, that player is far gone by the time they'd have to fess up that an NIL representative negotiated a deal with them during their recruitment.
  15. The NCAA has no authority to reach that far and never will. They can't control booster, that's why they are laying oversight on each member institution. A university can't even monitor what their own coaches are doing under the table and behind the scenes let alone monitor what hundreds of boosters & financial donors are doing. Will Wade lost his job and will have a +10 yr show cause on his head and LSU will suffer greatly for what he was doing behind the scenes. Auburn has to suffer for Chuck Persons under the table activities. Neither university had knowledge of the phone calls, text messages or money transactions that took place, yet the universities suffer all the same.
  16. They may get slapped pretty hard. aTm's are still under their 2 yr probation for recruiting violations from '20, when Jimbo served his 6 months show cause. They'll still be considered in the "window" if they were caught in this NIL stuff.
  17. There's still time to fill in the 25/32 and 2 were added just his week, so hopefully more to come onboard. The additional slots will help if Auburn has a decent season and shows improvement. Fingers crossed.
  18. So run 'em all off while banking on the ncaa to vote to extend the scholly limits? Brilliant move by CBH & Co., all that tittle tattle in February was a farce now that we know he was playing 3D chess.
  19. The inner workings of the portal puts the full weight of NIL on them. Auburn should be doing the same while there's no regulations in place, ante up big time.
  20. The NCAA drug their feet for years, kicked the can down the road as States passed laws for NIL. They wasted tons of man hours trying to create an alternative to NIL. They fought to the dead in the courts and the SCOTUS won rendering their plans null & void, they had to scrap their plan. They have no leverage with NIL member institutions know it - that's why they've pushed Emmert out and created the Transformation Committee to make broad rule changes, the committee is headed by Sankey and OSU's AD. Greg Sankey is in DC today with the PAC12 Commissioner meeting with legislators to discuss federal regulation and plead with them to enact laws to reign what they think NIL has become.
  21. And some NIL collective have already set up payment plans to coincide with tax season so that athletes are blindsided having to pay a chunk to Uncle Sam in April every year.
  22. I got the point, and my statement was more in line with yours. The Pitt coach claims tampering then prove it to the ncaa or shut up and go on about his business. The back channel dealings have always been prevalent and even more so with the free transfer portal + huge NIL packages to offer. USC needed a top QB and they got him in the portal, they need a top WR and it looks like they are getting him too. Honestly if Auburn isn't networking behind the scenes as weak as we are at some positions then I'm really disappointed.
  23. It was said the Pitt coach has called Riley to report tampering, if that is true then I believe it should be relatively easy to prove to the ncaa. It's now rumored USC has a $3million NIL package on the table for the kid.
  24. Did Pitt's HC report Riley to the NCAA for tampering? That should be an easy thing to prove IMO and the NCAA is antsy to nab someone fiddling with the portal & NIL and tampering should get their attention. The kid just hit the portal at the last possible moment and now we see he's playing catch with Bryce Young in California. Even though: We have an NFL system, an All-Pro WR as the position coach, and we play in the NFL’s most drafted conference, giving him tape against the best competition. According to AUght2win.
  25. Questions will be answered in short order when this staff proves they can develop their roster and get a respectable number of them drafted. Until then, the guy that made the comment the there was no next level talent at WR has a point.
