  1. BS. UF has always been among the best SEC schools academically. But if you look at the US News and World Reports article that USA derives from, it only shows that UF and UGA are among the top 100. Welp, so are other SEC schools like Auburn. Vandy and A&M are much higher rated academically than UGA. And UF is likely to fall precipitously as the DeSantis anti-education dictates take effect.
  2. Just based on these stats, if you are okay running the ball, you have a 60% chance to win a game. Well, ya know, that includes Idaho Tater stats, and I'm just not gobbling up Idaho Tater numbers. Plus it includes Gus running the ball into the DL every first down for, like, 2 yards over and over and over. Fact is, during the past 10 years, Auburn has had some great rushing teams. So I'm really hoping CHF, staff and athletes can excel in the rushing game. And I hope the Auburn passing game can take an even greater step forward and figure out how to move the ball through the air, because BOTH are necessary to succeed in today's SEC. Okay, I'm unreasonably optimistic about this year's team. OL, RBs, QB, TE. Yes, I'm unreasonably optimistic. Because I think this year Auburn can do much better than those stats. And better than the expert prognosticators predict. WDE!
  3. Luckily I didn't die, but I found myself dehydrated a lot. I had a long time relationship with a champion masters swimmer. She swan every day. She was constantly drinking water, trying to remain hydrated. And she always smelled and tasted of chlorine. hahaha
  4. Red Cross pays its CEO more than $600,000 per year. Less than 70% of money donated to Red Cross actually goes to services delivered to people in need because bureaucracy eats up the rest. If you donate to organizations rooted in the Maui community, almost all of your dollar will go to local organizations providing services to local needs, and the employees are locals.
  5. You should not think of this issue as something affecting only FB and BB players. Swimmers too. I was a competitive swimmer. 3 time state champion in Alabama, yet still not good enough to make the Auburn team during my time on campus. Yes, you sweat when working out with your conditioning routines, but you really sweat when swimming. Yep, you are in water, but you sweat. Lots. You don't absorb water from the pool, you exude water from your body into the pool. And wrestlers, of course. Brutal. Gotta make your weight.
  6. I switched to streaming several years ago and tried out several options. In my experience, YouTubeTV is the best replacement for cable/satellite. Local channels, all the varieties of ESPN, Fox Sports, network sports, etc.
  7. I spent three years of my childhood in Hawaii as my dad was stationed there. So my sympathies for our countrymen on Maui runs deep. And most of all to indigenous Hawaiians who mostly work in low paying service roles, who have not only lost their homes and belongings, but also their jobs. If you are inclined to contribute to help those who have lost everything, don't get rooked by a scam, don't give to an inefficient bureaucracy like Red Cross. For people in need: Maui United Way For animals in need: Maui Humane Society In honor of our friends in Hawai'i, let's remember the most celebrated of singers among Hawaiian people, Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole. Upon his death, thousands gathered for the traditional send-off, spreading his ashes in the ocean. One song captures his legacy, and the sensibility of the Hawaiian people.
  8. When 50% of your roster is newbies, most of whom have never encountered a Power 5 opponent, frankly, you just don't know what ya got or what gonna happen. This time of year, every fanbase (including us) is excited and optimistic. And I'm really liking what I'm hearing about Fall camp. But frankly, I'm just totally comfabubustulated. We got a bunch of guys. We got a bunch of coaches. We have absolutely no idea how this will work out in actual games. I WANT to win every game. I DOUBT we win every game. And just like all the "experts" and all the "insiders" and all of us here -- it's just speculation. Ain't nobody got a handle on the New Auburn ......... well, other than it is surely gonna be better than the last Auburn. WDE!
  9. This time of year, everyone is juiced! I'm sure it is the same at every school. New season, some awesome new players added, spirits are high, expectations are high! I am eager to see what CHF and his assistants can cobble together for the coming season. Half the team in newbies, most of whom have never seen an SEC opponent. CHF has said, after the first scrimmage this Saturday he wants to begin getting down to the 2-deep. Newbies on OL vs newbies on DL. Mostly newbie receivers against mostly newbie defenders. New sysem on offense and defense. In terms of talent, Auburn is still way behind Bama and UGA and LSU and A&M. In terms of talent, Auburn is maybe equal to Arkansas and the Misses. I'm fighting my urge to be excited and optimistic because too many question marks. I'm fighting my urge to be pessimistic because I want to try to be objective. Ugh!
  10. Auburn's SEC road schedule looks pretty hairy -- Bama, Tennessee, Arkansas and Florida. If we can avoid the late-season slide that crippled us last season, it could be a decent season this time around. That is, if a couple of our new guys can live up to the hype and make outside shots. Baylor, Indiana and USC. Whew! As for VaTech, we aren't impressed by the matchup, but ya know, I'm sure they aren't thrilled either. Coming into Neville can be kinda intimidating. hahaha
  11. With all due respect, and I am a lifetime Auburn crazoid, we ain't seen nuthin'. "OL- Best Unit since 2017" We ain't seen nuthin in SEC play. "RB’s - At least 2 are ready for big seasons " We ain't seen nuthin' in SEC play. Fact is, top to bottom, end to end, we've got half a team of portals, most of whom have never played against Power 5 opponents, and almost none have played against SEC competition. Every year, even in the gawd-awful Harsin era, the players and coaches were going like world-beaters. I think CHF and his staff have done great recruiting the best players they could pull in from the portal. But they haven't hit the field yet against SEC opponents. I'm optimistic, but not yet slobbering convinced. hahahaha
  12. So he is "putting in work" but not practicing with the team during Fall Practice. OK.
  13. Preseason rankings are meaningless. We play the games one by one, week by week. We win or we lose as we go along. It's the postseason rankings that matter. This is a rebuilding year for Auburn and I think CHF and his assistants have done amazing work trying to put together a competitive team. Finishing in the top 25, after the potato boys destroyed the team, would be a remarkable achievement. WDE!
  14. You are right. It has absolutely nothing to do with light bulbs. Just more right wing whataboutism.
  15. Need a conference for the center of the country MEC -- Middle Earth Conference
  16. The merger of Big10 with PAC12 does make sense in one way. Schools from these two conferences were playing each other every year anyway. So they already have a bond in athletics. It also makes a lot of sense for the PAC12 schools, because the PAC12 was about to sign off on a really devastating media deal that would have essentially erased PAC12 schools from most televisions nationally and offered much less in terms of $$ than any other conference. I'm sure these schools did the math and decided it made sense to jump. Much different for the PAC12 teams going to Big12. There has never been a collaboration or ties between these schools and the Big12. Still, with 4 PAC12 teams jumping to the Big12, it at least makes more sense regionally. As for Stanford and Cal-Berkley, boy they are in a bind. These are elite academic institutions, and although their top 2 sports have been up and down over the years, they are both really strong in Olympic and Directors Cup sports. So they'd be a natural fit in the Big10. But as of the moment, the PAC12 has a guaranteed spot in the expanded CFB Playoff. If the 4 remaining schools stick with the PAC12 and then the PAC12 pulls in some of the better programs out there like Boise State, Utah State, Fresno State, San Diego State, UNLV ....... most likely Oregon State, Cal, or Stanford would reach the CFP every year. Personally, I've always thought the private schools ought to form their own conference. Northwestern Duke Vanderbilt Stanford Boston College Tulane BYU TCU Baylor Wake Forest That's a pretty good 10 member conference. Add in the 3 military academies and Notre Dame, that's a blockbuster conference. Call it NERRD -- the National Elite Rock-N-Roll Division. hahaha You saw it here first!
  17. The extremist righteous right Moms For Liberty for the Huntsville/Madison Public Library to cancel a book reading/signing by non-controversial author/publisher. Moms For Liberty failed to acquire the necessary permits for a large gathering of extremists at the library, but apparently the locals are unable to deal with the situation. Extremists win ....... again. https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/canceled-kirk-cameron-riley-gaines-learn-alabama-library-cannot-host-them-book-event
  18. I don't know about divorce laws in the Bahamas, but if he made the case in divorce court that she was having an affair with this other dude, he might get custody of the kids and not have to pay her a penny in alimony. That could even play out in a U.S. court. So, that could be the motivation. As for the other stuff, well, she was a cheerleader, he was a starter. He probably saw her as a trophy wife and she probably saw him (with his NFL contract) as a sugar daddy. Life can get complicated even if you got some semblance of success.
  19. Mods -- move this if you think it is better in a different thread. WTF is going on with continuing conference expansion? Looks like Oregon and Washington are likely headed to the Big10. Colorado has already said it is jumping to the Big12. Same with Utah. Arizona and Arizona State are also likely going to the Big12 if Oregon and Washington go to the Big10. That would leave Cal and Stanford, Washington State and Oregon State. Well, the latter two would surely be destined for a step down to the Mountain West conference (home of Boise State). Cal and Stanford are in a major market in SF and they are both elite academic institutions with great Directors Cup sports programs, so they could be attractive to the Big10. That would increase the Big10 to 20 teams! How would the SEC react? Only 14 teams. Yes, quality in football and basketball, but in terms of media market, certainly not in the same league as a 20 team Big10. It's hard to figure out how the SEC could improve its media appeal. Because really, we are talking about money here. The SEC has already lost its CBS contract to the Big10. I'd think Miami would be top of the list for the SEC to poach from ACC. It is a big media market. UNC would be a good option -- national brand in basketball, decent in FB, excellent academically. Ditto for Virginia. Clemson would really add very little SEC appeal -- they dominate ACC in football, but it's a weak conference in FB, and they have no big media marketability. NC State and West Virginia would fit in the SEC, but would they bring media appeal? Nah. FSU? Would their small market really contribute to SEC media dollars? I dunno. Actually, I think the Big10 (future Big20) is out-maneuvering the SEC in terms of national media appeal. Sure, okay, going forward the SEC might still win national championships and attract prime recruits. Adding Texas certainly attracts a lot of eyeballs. But in terms of conferences overall, it's about money. A Big20 could reap way more $ per school in media contracts than SEC. Locking at all of the big cities in the Midwest, plus all of the West Coast cities -- that is a lot of media eyeballs. The South just doesn't have a lot more eye-power it can add, even if it grabs some good ACC schools. Just my amateur, off-the-wall perspective. Beat me up if you got it.
  20. Okay, does NIL "value" estimate really mean anything in regards to Auburn recruiting? I'd expect that Auburn could dump NIL money on any guy CBP really, really wanted. But with all players, there's more than just NIL. Hometown BB experience is a factor ...... plus, NBA prospects.
  21. Where does the article even imply that the SEC school was Auburn? Was there an invisible fotnote or something?
  22. Big smile on my face. I sure hope this young man can bring real 5* talent to the field.
  23. Lindsay Shriver, a former Auburn cheerleader from Georgia, engaged in a plot to have her husband, former Auburn long snapper Robert Shiver, murdered by her lover and a hit man man. Robert Shiver was in the process of filing for divorce from her. She decided she wanted him dead instead. The plot was uncovered accidentally by police in the Bahamas, where he owns a home. https://www.sportskeeda.com/college-football/how-former-auburn-cheerleader-lindsay-shiver-meet-robert-shiver-the-inside-story-recent-arrest-murder-conspiracy
