  1. I unfortunately never got to see them live like my dad and likely never will at this point. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll tour again. Fripp seems game. I was fortunate enough to catch Fripp in Atlanta for one show doing his soundscapes. Guy can literally make a guitar talk.
  2. Always love these covers. Helps you appreciate the original composition even more. Fripp-Belew-Bruford-Levin era Crimson was their best imo.
  3. Well finally had to splurge on a table saw today. Ran into a complication in Sadie's room and the jig is simply not accurate enough to make the proper rip cuts. Besides a router, that about completes my woodworking tool set, and I have a Dremel that can tide me over until I need something bigger.
  4. It's probably the most versatile tool I have besides my Dremel, but it's sort of a "jack of all trades, master of none" if that makes sense. I've used it to sand, cut drywall and concrete backer board. It works but other tools do usually do the job better, especially the bigger the job gets. In love with the thing now though. Saved a lot of time compared to any other tool I could have used. All of the door frames had to come up a bit in order to get the flooring flush underneath them. Just get a piece of scrap flooring as a template, put the blade atop it and went to town. In hindsight, I sort of wish I had simply pulled the baseboards, worked with the spacers against the wall and simply reinstalled dropping them down to the flooring. More painting, but it would look a bit cleaner than the quarter round.
  5. Been a fun couple of days. My wife and I took advantage of the extended weekend and finally got started on a much needed home improvement project. Carpet in out girls' rooms upstairs is original and badly in need of replacement. Roughly 30 years old. We purchased about 900ft² of tongue and groove vinyl plank and decided to give it a go ourselves. Got Ava's room done and it was the worst. Up comes the carpet. We made a fun family project out of it. Sadie followed behind me as I pull the carpet and tac board, pulling up staples I missed or hammering them level as needed. Catherine operated the shop vac. Ava painted trim. Cecilia got to contribute by looking stinking cute. Didn't much care for the power tools though. By evening it was just me and Sadie. Child can practically do the job herself. I'm impressed. This is as far as we got that evening. But we managed to wrap up the room before the day was out. End result: One room down, one more and the landing to go. Tools were a cheap jig saw for cornering and rip cuts, an oscillating multi tool for adjusting trim height in spots, a flooring shear for the planks, utility knife, kit for flooring that included a block and pull bar, various pliers, mallets, hammers, small trim pry bar for the tackboards, full on crow bar at one point, shop vac and s*** tons of elbow grease. The kit came with spacers for flooring expansion but the wedge ones didn't work so well, so we returned to home depot for ¼ block spacers. Materials were underlayment, duct tape, 400ish feet of vinyl planks. I'm going to throw down quarter-round shortly.
  6. Lived up to the packaging. My dad and I split it while watching the Tennessee game. Everything there as advertised, and the feel was spot on for the style. 5/5.
  7. Waconia Cookies and Cream. Smells as advertised. Taste is, well, let's put it this way. If the dead-fish handshake could be exemplified by a beer, it's this one. There's a tinge of the sweetness indicated by the smell, but it's wimpy, bland and little fun to drink.
  8. In Minneapolis for training this week. Expect to branch out a bit. First offering, Bent Paddle's DSDB... ...and holy hell are we off a banging start. Not a subtle beer at all. Front end is all oak, vanilla and coffee, obviously BBA. 11.2 ABV but you'd be hard pressed to know it it's so smooth. Body is its only weakness IMO.
  9. So Sweden's model. Where it didn't work. OK.
  10. One spin through and the new album is an absolute banger. Awesome. No wonder the reviews have been outrageously positive.
  11. No dice. My SOB neighbor keeps his floods on.
  12. Love the range. You'll be grouping again in no time. One of the biggest things I miss about living out in the country, the ability to go outside and shoot whenever you wanted. Other thing is pissing off the porch without having to worry about neighbors seeing you lol.
  13. Fripp still doing his own thing. Hate that he's 74 and we don't have too much longer with this legend. One of his Soundscapes. Everything here done with his guitar and effect pedals.
  14. Three years now. Only issue I've had with it is that I had to send it in for that recall for potential drop-fire. Other than that it's been a reliable tank. My next gun will likely be a Sig. Tried a P229 and 320 earlier this year and enjoyed them both.
  15. If your buying something like a Ruger chambered for .454 Casull for "home defense," you're not looking for protection lol. You're compensating for something. No, it's all about personal comfort. The best weapon you can own is the one you can best utilize. Try out everything you can get your hands on. Ranges/classes are usually a good place to do that. And take the time to get really familiar with whatever you choose. The range can be an enjoyable hobby. Main thing about dogs is that they be loud in a B&E situation. Don't have to be particularly ferocious. If a would be burglar realizes their presence, they are generally going to give your home a hard pass. There are easier targets. Finally, I wouldn't recommend a shotgun for home defense. They're unwieldy in tight spaces, kick like a mule, tough to reload in a pinch and despite their video game reputation for spray damage, the spread pattern at room distance is negligible. If you want to know why, go play paintball in a shoothouse. You'll gain a whole new appreciation for the need to have a low moment of inertia with your weapon.
  16. My personal carry is a Walther CCP 9. Like the lack of recoil and the ease of working the slide in the event my wife ever has to fire it. It can be a bitch to clean and lube until you get used to it though. Once you figure out how to line up the spring, it gets much easier.
  17. The only reason WAP is funny is because of a certain right wing pundit's reaction to it. But yeah it's a stupid song with vapid lyrics and I hate that it hit in the first place. Says a lot about the state of pop culture.
  18. I was a huge Incubus fan for a while. Make Yourself and Morning View were my soundtrack on the bus when traveling for football and soccer. Then just sort of tuned out after Light Grenades and haven't really gotten back into them since Never got into Weezer. They're actually big among Zoomers though. My 15 year old daughter listens to them a freaking lot. They did continue evolving though and one of the good things is that there's an album for whatever mood you're in. Very diverse opinions among the fan base on ranking the albums. For some Koi no Yokan or Diamond Eyes might be their opus while for others those are near the bottom. White Pony will always be near the top, which makes sense, because, hey, breakout album and all that. I regret that I actually still have a Hawthorne Heights album lying around somewhere. What a strange era that was. It was derivative crap but I enjoyed it for a little while there.
  19. Jeez the police are not handling this well: https://lawandcrime.com/opinion/kenosha-police-refuse-to-comment-on-cops-encouraging-militia-justify-giving-alleged-shooter-bottle-of-water/ A video alluded to in the article linked above:
  20. They're a weirdly polarizing band. One of those bands where they'll alter their direction every album while being unique enough that you won't mistake them for anyone else. Guess it comes with the "alt" label. I dislike the S/T with the exception of a few songs, and my favorite is divided between Diamond Eyes or Koi No Yokan. The critics, meanwhile, loved the S/T and didn't like Koi No Yokan. Make of it what you will lol. Kicker about Koi No Yokan is that it’s dedicated to the bassist you mentioned, Chi. He died prior to its release, and a lot of the album comes through as being directly related to it, particularly "Entombed" and "What Happened to You?"
  21. It sounds odd initially what with the intro and breakdown being in a major key. Reminds me of Devin Townsend's eclectic stuff post Strapping Young Lad. It took a few listens but I'm into it now. That's pretty much always the case whenever Deftones drops an album for me though. Listen one: "eh" Listen ten: "holy s*** this is their best album to date and everyone else needs to hear it"
