I don’t agree with this logic. He’s unproven. We have no idea how his program will trend because he’s never done this before. Currently not recruiting so hot.

And once again, I think there's a very good chance he bolts elsewhere. Especially if it's to another college, the entire team would follow, leaving Colorado right back where they started. I think he's a good coach but the risk of catastrophe (think Kiffin-Tennessee x5) was just too great for me to feel comfortable about hiring him.

Something to keep in mind. At Auburn every year is a crucial year for recruiting based on our geographic location regardless of how good we are.
I grew up in AL and lived in FL twice, LA, TX and NC. I’ve NEVER encountered a state media as bias and determined to promote the state school and undermine their in state competition like the Bama press. They are bama’s 12th man. Most sports journalists in AL have no journalistic integrity. The ONLY reason why the Bama press covered the Albert Means story was because a TN paper broke the story so they they had to cover it. While Dubose got nailed he was using the same blueprint he & Stallings used in AL 247/365. Stallings bailed before the hammer came down. If you recall Yeager from the NCAA was quoted saying Bama was the dirtiest program they ever encountered. They had so much dirt he said they got tired of looking and quit. It was like a murderer with 8 life sentences but there are still more bodies. Do we really need more at this point ? Everyone knows how Saban’s house was built. This will always challenge our recruiting but at least with NIL we don’t have to watch Bama buy our recruits out from under us while the NCAA turns a blind eye doing absolutely nothing. It’s the most level playing field we’ve ever had.

Next we go to talent rich GA. Every time they have a decent HC they do a good job at getting the state’s best players. Kirby built that house just like Saban. Had NIL started around Kirby’s first year he would not be sporting 2 NC rings. At least NIL should start chipping away at depth and Freeze needs to start getting his share. Kirby is young so the challenge is going nowhere, but just like Bama , NIL allows us to compete.

Now to FL and mainly FSU. Over the years it’s uncanny how many times we have locked horns with FSU over top recruits, been their top 2 schools of choice and ended up finishing second. We need many more Faulk, Limonier, etc.

So with AL, GA & FL being our natural recruiting ground it’s loaded with talent , but every year is crucial given the advantages and/or history of our top 3 competitors for talent. We just can’t afford to have a bad year. We have had starters that can go toe to toe with the best, but we seldom have the same quality depth.

Florida is probably going to go 6-6 at best yet they have the #3 recruiting class with possibly their third 5* next week. IDK what you define as a bad year for the coach's first year, but this was certainly always going to be...well, like many other HC's first years. My requirement for this class hasn't changed at all: consensus top 15.

@AUwent Ummm. There's been 1 decommit & rumors of a few more coming. A couple of the rumored to come are said to be a mutual parting of ways. If true, a mutual parting is not losing players.

Also there are lots of rumors of us flipping guys from Bama & Florida FWIW. Long way to go but let's let it play out.

FWIW JLee knows of all the rumored coming decommits & flips & still predicted tonight for us to finish 8th in recruiting rankings in this class so relax please. There's still going to e a lot of movement in the class for us & most teams.

Like I said, I've had a rough evening so that was a big factor. Deeply appreciated.

  4. Hate to say it but there seems to be lots of bad vibes in recruiting right now. I’ve had a rough evening (and yes, for non-football reasons) so that may be part of it, but we seem to have all this talk of losing players and not flipping any ourselves. I'm beginning to get nervous that we won't have a cons. top 15 class--which was and still is what I'm asking for this cycle, no goalpost moving.

I'm sorry, but next season will be similar to this season, because CHF and staff will work their butts off for the few best HS kids they can find, and then work their butts off for the best portal guys they can lure to AU.

It's gonna take 2-3 more years for CHF and staff to attract enough A+ highschool kids, and then another 2-3 years to coach them up for SEC play.

I have confidence in CHF and his assistant coaches. But my expectations are maybe lower than a lot of guys here at AUF.

Le sigh, this is exactly what I’m talking about in my previous post. One game improvement (from likely six this year) shouldn’t be an unrealistic ask. We MUST convince as many starters as we can to stay, especially if they’re not going to go high enough in the draft to really help recruiting.

LT - Wade will probably get drafted, LT will be a huge target.  We don't have any on the roster
RT - Miller will be back and starter
C - Lew takes over here and honestly don't think he'll be worse than Young.  Possibly better.
Guards - Britton is gone and Stutts is gone.  Does Wright hand around for a 6th year and finally get a starting shot?  Tate Johnson either needs to be a starter or move on. There are a lot of guys that will be in the system for a year plus.  Muskrat or EJ Harris.  Some RSFR guys who probably shouldn't expect to be starters like Senda or Joiner.  Probably need a starting Guard.

So 2/5 outside replacements...not fully starting over.

We need to make sure as many guys as possible stay, because I have a feeling that guys at other places will (Will Rogers, KJ Jefferson, Dillon Gabriel, Spencer Rattler, etc). Ngl, I’m going to be very irritated if come December we’re saying things like: “we may be improved but it probably won’t show up in the record!” Literally every time we’ve said that outside of going into a first year…it hasn’t gone well.

You were mostly right that the evening games might be good.

    Georgia- Nope

    Michigan- Nope

    ND- UPSET

    Ole Miss - Scare

    daU - Upset by GT

    Fresno St- Upset by Wyoming

USC losing to Arizona 17 - 7 as I type this.

Holy crap, GT beat Da U? I turned that one off.

Recruiting may be 80-90% of CFB, but MC shows the missing 10% every single year.

If Kentucky really tried to recruit at a top 15-10 level they would be pretty damn good. Stoops has a great gig. Why work any harder?

If a bicycle had an engine, it'd be a motorcycle.

    Also, worth a read.

Checking to see is some are feeling more optimistic now after watching GA dismantle KY

    It IS in Athens.

As much as I hate GA, I'm perfectly ok if KY and MO are indeed paper tigers. I want as easy a path to 8 regular season wins next year as possible (though realistically my expectation is 7). Maybe I have too pessimistic a timeline, but trying to err on the side of caution.

Or, it makes us look more, and more stupid for paying him all that money in the first place.

Unfortunately, we might've looked really, really terrible if we didn't give him what he wanted after those two wins. And when attracting a coach, that absolutely matters.

  11. Gus is a good guy and I hate wishing any ill on him but this makes us look less bad (nationally, I mean) for parting with him.

    True story.
This kid has a TON of potential!  But the SEC is a huge leap from a small private high school league in Arkansas.   It is yet to be determined how well he will make that leap.
We can be confident he will be the AU QB of the future AND recognize the risk and look for a strong plan B at the same time.

Yeah if Thorne just isnt the answer we'll need to take another swing at the portal.

    1. Their DL really is All That.

    2. Overall, they might be the class of the West.

Makes our loss look a bit more palatable.

But in the end they're Aggie, and they still have a whole half of football to remind us of that. 😉

As a secondary, very casual Texas fan I get the impression there's not much hate towards A&M from the Texas side. I'm not crazy about them per say but I'd still love it if they pulled it off.

LSU takes the lead, but only lasts five plays. When you can throw the football it must be really fun.

    Very impressed with Mizzou.

In fairness it is Drink's fourth year. And his first three years were quite rough (they lost to Bo Nix-less Bryan Harsin!). He does appear to have something going though.
